Not sure which model you have, but if it is an A series and you use double A batteries, try cleaning the battery contacts inside the battery compartment with a pencil eraser. If this doesn't work, call Canon to set up service. Free tech support, free estimate (just pay shipping cost) and a chance that you may qualify for their upgrade program for deeply discounted upgrade to a newer model.

SOURCE: Canon Power shot A530 repeatedly displays "change

First make sure that you are using quality batteries, and not "super heavy duty". If so, some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please see this link for more info.

SOURCE: I have a canon power shot A70 digital camera and I

I don t have a solution, but I got a similar problem. When I install new batteries, they only last for maybe 10 snaps- snaps ,then the "battery" light comes on and camera shuts off. I ve tried several sets of different batteries so its not a battery problem.

Canon PowerShot A3100 IS won't turn on

Make sure the battery is installed correctly.Try opening, then closing the cover to the memory card and battery compartment while holding pressure against it until you hear it click closed. Then try to power it up. The camera will not power up if the cover is not properly closed.

Canon Power Shot A1000IS Batteries drain too quickly. Red battery light comes on after only 5 to 10 pics. Batteries are fully charged when put into the camera. What should I do to correct the problem...

Cynth,

This kind of problem could have occurred only when the batteries are old and do not hold charge for a longer r duration. Please replace the batteries with new ones.

Hi, these are known issues with various Canon PowerShots

LCD eats up lots of power.. if there is a dim option use it or shut it off completely

1st Reset your camera to the manufacturers setting.
2nd Make sure your battery setting is on the correct configuration (can be found in settings -setup)
3rd Take a look in your battery compartment to see if there is any residue, if so
clean with a qtip and isopropyl alcohol

Try a different battery anyway. I had the same problem with a Kodak a couple years ago. I put in a new battery and it started working fine.

You need to power it with rechargable batteries. with the MAH being no less than 2000. I bought a charger which came with 2batteries for less than a tenner
