HDD REMOVAL Covers removed, can see the HDD in its carrier, but it's not obvious as to what has to be done to remove the HDD assembly (or perhaps I am being particularly dense today). Anybody help plse.

Thanks for the info. Further to your instructions, you remove the one screw retaining the HDD caddy. Then with the help of the plastic tab fitted to the caddy, you push the caddy/HDD to the right to disengage the pins, then lift the left hand side upwards to remove the assembly.

We have a disk stuch in a dell inspiron 1318, there is no OS on it right now. how can we get disk out? there is no place to stick the paper clip

Remove the optical drive, and then open the drive. Remove the disk.

With most laptops this is a simple job.
Turn the laptop over on it's top, remove one Philips head screw, pull the optical drive out.
Remove 2 to 4 screws from a cover on the optical drive, and ease the tray open.

With the Inspiron 1318 Notebook PC it is more difficult.

A) Remove the Display Assembly.
(Removal covers removing the Display Assembly as a whole unit, off of the laptop)

B) Remove the Keyboard.

C) Remove the Palm Rest. (Top cover under the Keyboard. Your palms rest on it when you use the touchpad)

D) Remove the Optical Drive

Dell Support > Dell Inspiron 1318 Service Manual,

In the list click on Optical Drive.

Lost Bios Password for Gateway Solo 1450. I have removed the CMOS battery for 5 min; that didn't work. Removed it again for an hour and that didn't work! I have tried all the back door pwds for the Phoenix...

From my experience there is no way to retrieve or remove a unknown hard drive (HDD) password. The bios passwords and windows passwords are no problem to remove, but the HDD password cannot be removed. Only option I know is to replace the hard drive. I have done this on about a dozen PC's

I just installed a used hard drive bought on ebay for a dell latitude d600 the computer finds 0 dard drive

OK, the big question is #1 do you have the interposer board from the old drive attached to the new one? The interposer is an adapter that covers the pins on the HDD and converts them to a sliding spade type contact to better allow insertion/removal of the HDD.

On a warranty replacement drive, the interposer normally comes on the new drive. On one from EBAY, not sure. If the HDD has 2 rows of exposed pins then it doesn't have an interposer attached. If it has a small adapter protruding say 1/4 inch and it has a row of contacts top and bottom, the interposer is on the drive.

If the interposer is on the drive, the drive may be bad. If it is not, remove the one from the old drive and attach it to this one.

Amilo Pro V2010 base removal

Hi
The inverter is in the laptop screen, not the base.
1 remove the screw covers and then the screws surrounding the laptop screen
2 gently prise the screen bezel away from the screen, best done when the laptop is opened out almost flat
3 the inverter is at the base of the screen, gently unscrew and unclip the inverter from the LCD screen
4 take replacing the inverter to make sure all the leads are safely housed

5 replace screen bezel and away you go

Removing the hdd in my toshiba 1135-s125

OK, This is a big undertaking if you are completely new.

1st, if you can get a static guard wrist band - great!
2nd You will be dealing with plenty of screws so keep track

In Toshiba notebooks most screws are marked. Here are some examples:
F4 - flat-head screw 4mm long
B6 - button-head screw 6mm long
F16 - flat-head screw 16mm long
B8 - button-head screw 8mm long

e3673a1.jpg

I have .a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155. It should be a similar configuration, same family/1135-S1xx series.

You will have to remove a total of 9 Phillips screws.

Place the underside of the PC up.
Disconnect all power, cables and Battery from Laptop
.
The first screw is located just under the Toshiba Serial Number / Bar codes, just above where the DVD/CD-ROM combo drive is located.
Mine is labeled (F5). Unscrew it and place in a safe place.
Pull DVD/CD-ROM combo drive out it is an assembly.

The Hard Drive is located under the DVD/CD-ROM combo drive.
The Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is enclosed within a caddy containing the remaining eight screws.

There are four screws holding the caddy rails to the Laptop and four screws holding the rails, caddy and Hard Drive as an assembly.
Unscrew and place in a safe place/ container they are small. Disassemble the HDD from caddy assembly; place your HD in the caddy and reassembly.

Here is another Toshiba HDD access that is slightly more
straightforward than my 1135 series
So you get an idea of where a HDD is visually:

Above is a photo of the Battery sliding out

Below is the Hard Drive Removal

I hope this gives you an idea of how to go about it for your
particular Laptop
