Question about Kohler 17 kW Emergency Power System - 17RES-L

Open Question

I need to charge the battery on my 17RES to about 16V to get it to start. 14.5 V will not cause it to fire. The control board briefly flashes SCF0, and the readout shows about 10V when running and I know the battery is much higher. The connector on the control board shows the high voltage at the same time the display is showing the lower voltage. New battery, starter contact has the full voltage. Almost seems as if something is preventing the firing from the control board.

SOURCE: Engine does not turn over fast enough to start

May be the problem is the hard turning of the motor. It may be caused by segments broken, bearings defective, oil problem etc.

Wheelchair runs fine after charging but only after 1 day 6hrs use it stops with a jerk and then controller lights start blinking.

Thank you for all the information, number one, charge with the joystick on for 12-14 hrs. there is a circuit in the joystick that can cause problems, in order to reset it you will need to charge it like this. The batteries will last longer if the batteries are charged every night that it is used during the day, also, instills good charging habits.

The blinking is a flash code, count the flashes, and refer to the owners manual for meaning. The joystick maybe failing or the controller or both. Motors may need to be cleaned out.

Camera will not switch on in operate mode.

Can you test the voltage of the charged batteries, often they will not hold full charge for several reasons, age, factory imperfection, over use, haven't been allowed to discharge fully before recharge, dirty battery contacts, if you can, try new non rechargeable batteries, often cameras get temperamental about batteries after some time, use a metal tarnish cleaner with a cue tip, on the contacts, or pure alcohol, if bad, use plastic scourer, cold batteries don't work well, warm them in your hands if cold.

4210 Starts for a second and then stops

This will be one of, or both of, the following.
Bad battery will not take a charge and cause this condition.
NOW... Why will it not take a charge. either the battery is bad, and CAN'T take the charge the machine is giving. OR the charging circuit is fired on the main board. Sometimes a bad charging circuit will also cook your battery causing both to be screwed.
But it is a common problem with the board going bad. Some people purchase an external charger for the battery and then swap it into the roomba when charged. But this kinda defeats the automated controls. The fried charging circuit also will drain the battery when it isn't turned on. I have repaired a number of charging circuits on these units

Not charging {I think }

I assume that you have a meter of some sort as you stated the voltage as 16v.
test the battery voltage with the engine off, should be 12.4 volts or there abouts.
then test it again with the engine running, 14 to 16 volts should show a charge. Turn it all off and leave for 30 mins to an hour and retest the battery with the engine off, if the reading is lower than 12 volt then the battery is faulty.

This is a generic symptom that could happen to any LCD monitor.
The following is a generic answer applicable to most.

The most possible causes are bad capacitors or a bad semi-conductor.

Open the unit and check to see if any of the capacitors in the power supply or other boards look domed or vented on the top.

Replace any capacitors accordingly. Use the same value capacitors. Most often, 1000uF 16V or 25V, 470uF at 16 or 25V, 220uF at 16V or 25V.

If this doesn’t solve the problem, try checking the surface-mount transistors on the inverter board that run the lights. Some times these transistors go bad and can cause the power to cycle up and down. Check the area for any cracked or overheated ceramic or mylar capacitors.

Don’t forget to check for caps on the main board. Some times these boards are overly simple and only have a couple of caps, but other times they are teaming with them.
