Question about Toshiba 50HP66 50 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

There is a thin (One Pixel Wide) Line appearing in the middle of my Screen running vertically from top to bottom. What can I do? Could this be a power issue (Power Conditiong unit maybe needed?), I recently moved to an older house, don't know if its the power or prehaps I damaged it in the move?

Sounds to be a Viable option for me to undertake. I appreciate the response. Just a few quick questions before I proceed however. Is there any chance it is the entire panel? Also, should these problems be obvious to me i.e. will I be able to see them with the naked eye or should I test with my MultiMeter? Lastly, in regards to the capacitors, how do I discharge the energy from them or safely disconnect them without surge? If that is the problem. Where would you suggest I buy replacement parts if needed also? Radio Shack?

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems to be an issue with Y board however, Z and the logic board should also be checked. These boards are located on the right side of the unit and to check them you'll have to open the back of the unit. Once you have opened the back also check for any blown/bulged capacitors. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when in off position. Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

There is slight chance that it might be the board
completely however, you'll have to check it. Yes you can see bulged/swollen
capacitors with the naked eye, in case if you don't see any then test the connectors
with voltmeter going from power supply to the boards.
You can leave it unplugged to
discharge energy and you can buy the parts from radioshack or from this link.
Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved
or post a comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

My lcd television has developed a thin vertical line. It is on all the channels and comes and goes. We tried diconnecting and then reconnecting the satellite cable without change

Hello; If this line goes fully from top to bottom, You have a bad LCD panel. These lines can come and go. The fact that the line is thin , or one pixel wide, proves a bad LCD panel. If the line goes only part way down or up the screen, You likely have a cracked LCD panel ( never covered by warranty ) The LCD panel will cost more than the set sold for ! John

Vertical red line through screen

This is a problem within the screen, probably the connection from the internal ribbon connector to the display. Unfortunatly the only way to repair this is to have the screen replaced.

Have you vertical deflection circuit checked for bad Vertical IC, and or Bad vertical Capacitors in the vert output section for the deflection board. Also have Vertical output Pump up Capacitor replaced, also have B+ voltage check coming from flyback transformer, for any open fusible resistors

Vertical, pencil-thin blue line appears after 10 minutes of viewing (any source)

I would suspect a connection breaking down as the set heats up. A shop will probably have to put the set in a stand to hold it while they check for loose connections or defective components inside. Not a DIY job by any means. If this line went completely through the picture either vertically or horizontally and stayed there then this would have indicated a failure in the Panel itself. A thin Line any where on the screen consisting of one pixel in width is a Panel Failure according to Hitachi.
