Assuming the result could be expressed as a fraction, use the >FRAC command in the MATH NUM menu. The calculator won't do it if the resulting denominator has more than three digits.

    .3684 converts correctly to 921/2500
So it does not have to be a denominator with JUST three digits, but it is not clear to me what the limitations are.
    Also .991 converts to 991/1000
But with .999, the calculator does not convert it into a fraction at all.

Irrational number

Unfortunately, you can't. The TI-84 has a limited ability to work with fractions but it won't work with irrational numbers.

Complex number

Try entering on the same command line your calculation followed by the ToFrac command. That should work. Here is a screen capture from a TI83Plus in complex mode (a+ib).

My TI 84 won't convert my imaginary numbers to fractions. I typed in 1/(1+i) and it won't convert the answer to fraction form. It keeps saying Error Data Type

The TI-84 works with real fractions. It will not convert complex numbers to fractions.

You can convert the real and imaginary components to fractions separately. For your example, 1/(1+i) is .5-.5i. Converting .5 and -.5 to fractions, you get 1/2 + (1/2)i.

How do i type a fraction in my Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator

The TI-84 doesn't really work with fractions. Type in a fraction as a quotient. For example, to type in one-half, type ( 1 / 2 ).

How do I on a TI-84 Plus Simplify Fractions

Enter the fraction for example: enter 8/12.
The answer will be .666666
Then click Math (which is located under the Alpha button).
Click the ->Frac button (the first one).
It should come up as Ans->Frac.
Click Enter.
It should now read 2/3 which is 8/12 reduced.
Note: I have a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, and the TI-84 Plus might not have this function, but that is how I do it on my TI-84 Plus Silver Edition

Fraction button directions

Yeah, there isn't a fraction button on an 84. You have to enter it manually as 4/9 or if simplifying a decimal, use the Ans>Frac under the MATH menu
