The same happened to me. The battery will no longer take a charge. Oreck store was of no help. Do NOT buy the new model it is poorly designed. you can find other brands in the same category at half the price and much better brands for about the same price.

The battery is a sealed lead acid battery, you should never completely discharge the battery, once it has been completely discharged, it likely will not take a charge. The battery is readily available, I got mine from an industrial battery supplier. Just ask for a 6v 4.2 Amp Hour Battery... this battery is used in many applications. I just paid $8.00. The manual states that if the battery is allowed to be completely discharged it me be damaged... its the nature of the beast.

To extend Roomba's battery life and keep Roomba cleaning at peak performance: • Always keep Roomba plugged in when not in use. • Recharge Roomba as soon as possible. Waiting several days to recharge Roomba can damage the battery. • For storage off the charger, remove the battery from Roomba and store in a cool, dry place. • Blue or black batteries should be stored after Roomba has been used. • Yellow batteries should be stored after being fully charged.
16-Hour Refresh Charge If Roomba has been left off the charger for an extended period, Roomba will initiate a special 16-hour charge cycle. This extensive charge refreshes Roomba's battery and extends the battery life. While charging, Roomba's "Clean" button will pulse quickly. Note: For best results, do not interrupt this Refresh Charge.

When and how long do you charge the battery in the Oreck AV 701B Electric Broom?

hello. here is a copy of your broom's manual http://www.oreck.com/includes/customer-service/owners-guides/pdfs/40178-01-ElectrikBroom-Manual.pdf

go to page 5 to read about charging. The first initial charge must be for 10-12 hours, after that 8-10 hours. With a full charge the broom will operate for 15-20 minutes. Joe

please rate my answer as very helpful. Thank you. J.

if you have a cheep avo meter check that the charger is charging. it should be charging about 6 volts or so DC volts? just set the meter to DC volts at 20 volts and hold the two probs on the points meter should move up, if not revers probs and try again, if not charging, get new one, but its more likly to be the battry pack in the hover gone bust on you, there a pack of ni-cads and will only last a year or so on charge,
the only other thing i can think of is the motor has given up the gost on you, as its only a toy motor in this hover! (try a friends charger first) dont go spending hard earnd cash on a dead horse, get a new one!

Where can I find the charger for the Oreck ElectrikBroom AV-701B. It's part no. 40181-01?

You might be surprised. Ebay doesn't have any listed. Oreck is a very private company and they don't sell unlimited stock to anyone, even their distributors. If you find one on Ebay, it will be an aftermarket unit that MIGHT fit.

Won't charge

The battery from Lowes was the perfect solution for my Oreck AV-701B vacuum. In this vacuum, however, the wires are soldered to the battery leading to a plug which powers the vacuum. You will have to desolder the old battery and solder the new one. This is easy soldering and any friend with a soldering iron could do it for you in two minutes. The improved (restored) power is amazing.

Roomba 4200 Scheduler

The best for the battery if (NiMH). Discharge completly, than charge full (charge more even the charger indicates full charge)

Clean every part, maybe a hair slow down the wheels and thats why need more power.

Here some tip from the web:

With proper care, one iRobot Roomba battery can last for hundreds of cleaning cycles before you need to replace it. Here are some things you can do to extend Roomba's battery life and keep Roomba cleaning at peak performance:

Use your Roomba frequently. Your Roomba is powered by a rechargeable nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery, which lasts the longest when you use it regularly.

Keep the brushes clean. If the brushes and brush axles get clogged with hair and other debris, your Roomba will strain to spin them, using more battery power than normal. In extreme cases, the battery can even be damaged. See How to remove and clean Roomba's brushes

Keep your Roomba plugged in when not in use. If you have a Home Base®, keep your Roomba docked in the Home Base and plugged into the charging brick. If you don’t have a Home Base, keep your Roomba plugged into the APS Fast Charger.

Make sure you are charging your Roomba correctly. When your Roomba is plugged in correctly, the solid green light should be illuminated on the charger or on the Home Base.

Plug your Roomba in as soon as possible after using Max Mode. Leaving your Roomba unplugged for more than 24 hours can damage the battery.

Place your Roomba and the Home Base on a smooth, hard surface when yourRoomba is plugged in. Make sure your Roomba and the Home Base have plenty of space for ventilation. Do not charge your Roomba on a carpet or rug.

Charge and store your Roomba in a cool, dry place. Keep your Roomba out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat such as windows, radiators, heating vents, and large appliances.

Remove the battery when not using your Roomba for a long period of time. If you will not be using your Roomba for more than a few weeks, fully charge the battery, remove it, and store it in a cool, dry place. When you want to use your Roomba again, insert the battery and fully charge it. Leaving your Roomba plugged in for weeks when it is not being used can damage the battery.

You can purchase a second battery or replacement online at the iRobot Store.
