Replace fan motor

Hello Theresa;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You did not provide a model number which is located on a label on the upper liner side wall in your fresh food section. So, I do not know what you have.

There are several reasons your fresh food section is not cooling:

1.) Cooling air vent from freezer to fresh food section. Find the air vent, put your hand in front of it, do you feel any air flow? This vent may be iced up or closed.
2.) Freezer cooling coils iced up - Look at the back wall of your freezer, is there frost or ice on the wall? You may have a bad defrost heater.
3.) Cooling coil fan - Open the freezer door do you hear the fan? Push in on the light switch, do you hear the fan?

Get back to me.

The fan on my GT345 chest freezer runs constantly. Is this correct ?

Depends are you referring to the condenser fan or the evaporation fan? If it's the condenser fan you may have an issue with debris in the condenser coil not letting enough air flow to cool down so it will stay on to keep from burning up compressor. If it's inside the evaporator coil then it may be low on refrigerant possibly freezing up the evap coil making it run then kick into defrost run kick into defrost etc... hope this helps

Lg lfx25960st not cool enough

1. What are your controls (freezer & refer) set at?
LG recommends 0 deg for the freezer & 37 deg for the refer.

2. The way a modern refrigerator works is, the freezer is cooled directly and cold air then is blown into the refer section. The incoming vents in a French door LG are at the back, top. Return are at the bottom. Make certain that nothing is blocking these vents and than the refer has good air circulation.

3. Vacuum the coils at the back of the refer. A large build up of dust, dirt, animal hair etc. will affect efficiency.

Freezer not freezing, some things are not frozen solid, but fridge seems to be cooling properly

One thing to do is clean the coils around the compressor so that air can move freely over them.

Amana arb2557cw condenser coils freezing, fridge not cooling

There are a few things that it could be. Do you mean the evaparator coil? This would be the coil on the inside of the freezer, the condenser is outside the unit. If the evap. coil is freezing, you could have to much in your freezer blocking air flow. You could also have a evap. fan not running. Check the owner's manual for the location of the defrost timer, it could be bad. The thermostat needs to be checked and set so that it is at a reasonable level. One last thing to check would be the condensate drain. Make sure the drain is not plugged or the line is not plugged. Good luck.

Freezer coils are freezing up and won't cool the refrigerator

I am no expert at this but have a few thoughts:

1. sometimes a refrigerator (or airconditioner, etc) can freeze up due to LOW Refrigerant. even the "wrong" part can freeze.

2. most refrigerators have a defrost cycle in which they pass warm air through the freezer compartment to evaporate frost. These work on a timer. If the timer motor is broken they will not remove frost and could result in a freeze-up.

Many freezers (e.g. chest, etc) do NOT as they are meant to NOT be opened as often as a refrigerator and thus do NOT go through this energy-wasting defrost cycle.

3. you may have a leak in the gasket allowing moist room air to enter causing excess moisture which then condenses on the freezer coil, although (2) might help that, but at a significant waste of energy.

4. I believe a fan may be used to bring some of the cooling from the freezer to the refrigerator (if it is a combination)

All three of these conditions result in wasted energy, and obviouslyl should be solved.

All but (1) may be things you can check on yourself. (1) I have heard of "hobbyist/engineers" doing themselves, but requires a means to get at the "freon" valve, have a meter, be able to replace / augment it with the right kind, etc - best left to a professional.

Freezer compartment of refrigerator not freezing

First, I think it’s important to know that the Ref side has no cooling coils, it’s basically a box and the cold air in the freezer is blown over by a fan through a channel into the Ref side. This channel has a door which regulates how much cold air goes through. You probably have two control knobs in the Ref side, one controls the temp with numbers 1-9, 9 being the coldest. This temp control tells the compressor how long to run. The other control is for that little door and it may have letters A-E, E being the coldest. If you set it on E (coldest) then this will close that little door and keep most the cold air in the freezer.
So, how can the Ref side be cold and the freezer side not freezing?

1. Coolant leak. There is enough coolant to keep the Ref side cool but not enough to freeze on the freezer side.

2. Defrost system failure. The coils on the freezer side are clogged with ice and it's just a matter of time when the Ref side won't cool either. The back wall in the freezer will be covered with ice/frost

REfridgerator Failure

Refridgerator is 5 years old. Simply went out of cooling and freezing. Still makes operating sounds and lights work but losing our freezer full of food is disturbing on a refer only 5 years old. What could be wrong?
