As with almost all printers, whether laser or inkjet, it requires all the colors to be inserted to be able to pass the diagnostic and go into print mode.

Without all the colors inserted, it just refuses to go further.

The lever that holds ink cartride in place is broken

take out the old cart'd, and get yourself some "loctite" power grab "red tape at walmart, insert the new cart'd and use the "loctite" at the top, allow it some time to "set up", and you should print a "test page", and you should be good to go, god bless

Slow printing

Even though the printer doesn't call for new ink, remove or replace the color cartridge. First I removed the color and the test page printed at full speed. I then put in a new color cartridge and it again worked full speed. I believe the problem was somewhere in the half used color cartridge. Hope this solves your problem.

Will not print in black

Try running the printhead cleaning utility on the printer a few times. Sometimes if you do not use your printer enough, the ink can clog the printhead on the cartridge. Another thing you can try is to use a cotton swab with some alcohol on the printhead to try to loosen it up. The alcohol trick is a last resort because it may damage the printhead occasionally. Good luck!

Printer will not start on time

Upon a prompt from the printer, I removed the color cartridge which had run out of ink. Strangely enough, this solved the problem. I can now print anything in black and I will have the color cartridge replaced or refilled.
