Hello, and thanks for Using Fixya.

I see the machine has a IDE hard drive connector and also 2 SATA connectors.
I'm guessing you are using IDE hard drive, or did you just upgrade to a Sata drive?

Windows Xp is old and Sata was a new thing back then. Your computer does not have a floppy drive so we can not use a driver from the manufacturer. IF you just installed SATA drive, then you must either go into the BIOS setup and find a way to change SATA type to native IDE or similar.

If there are no SATA options in bios at all, then you either need to make a custom windows xp installation cd on another computer, that contains the sata drivers.

Or the easiest way would be to use the old type of hard drive IDE windows xp will not have any trouble finding a IDE device. The SATA does make this complex.

Let me know how you get along with it.

Compaq Mini 700EL hdd not recognised

If you are installing Windows XP then -
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Dvd cd rom [ code 10 ] does not work

The Code 10 error code is generated when Device Manager has insufficient information or the error that is bubbled up by the device drivers is not recognized by Device Manager. Additionally, this error may occur when one of the drivers that the device needs does not start. If many drivers are being used by a particular device, it can be difficult to determine the one that failed.

The Code 10 error resembles the following: This device cannot start. (Code 10) The most common resolution is to update the drivers that are associated with the failing device. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In the device's Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab.
  2. Click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard.
  3. Follow the instructions to update the driver.
Note You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or the driver files may still be installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor's Web site. uparrow.gifBack to the top Typical Code 10 error issuesThe Code 10 error pertains mainly to hardware and device driver issues or to compatibility issues between hardware drivers and additional software that is installed in Windows. The Windows XP disc you are using doesn't that the Hard Drive Controller Driver for that system native to the operating system. Since the system is a Mini and has no floppy drive the only option is to slipstream the HDD controller drivers into the OS CD.

Hello, Installing Windows 7 64 on a new HDD on my laptop. When trying to install I get 'c00021a fatal system error'. Help would be appreciated.

Your new HDD is faulty or you have not got the right driver installed/available on your windows CD - Also ensure your BIOS is up to date. Use Active@ kill disk to format the drive and if it does then likely the problem lays witour driver which you will need to get from the manufacturers website and put on a Flash drive and install before you install Windows.

My ethernet controllers are missing and i need to know where i can get them and how to reinstall them on an ibm netvista 8303 pc windows XP pro operating system ?

Google your model number to find drivers from the manufacturer; do not go to third party sites. you should be able to find a self-installing driver program, but if you need to install manually, heres how:

Right click on My Computer.
Click Manage.
Find the Device Manager section.
The Ethernet Controller should have a yellow mark if the drivers are missing. Double click it to bring up options for the device.
Find the drivers tab and click 'update driver"
When it asks, try letting it find the driver automatically.
If that fails, tell it you want to specify the driver location and choose the folder you downloaded and click through.

Is it a bad mb ?

If the HDD is not recognized in the BIOS, windows will not be able to install on that drive. Did you move the HDD interposer from the old drive to the new one? (t is a small adapter that plugs on to the pins of the drive.) If you did, reinstall the interposer on the old drive, ensure it still works. If neither drive functions, then you may have a bad motherboard.

0x0000007B normally occurs when you try to install an older version of WIndows XP on a system with a newer HDD controller and the XP CD doesn't have the correct driver for the HDD controller. So if you get an error like this after getting the HDD to be recognized by the bios, then you may need the HDD controller driver too.
