You're right, the book that comes with it is worthless. Have you found the volume buttons? On the side of the phone opposite of where the charger goes. You can push in the middle and also up or down to make it louder. I can't even figure out how to hear different ringtones. lol

I turned mine to Outdoor mode under sound profile - it's actually too loud now (when the phone is closed when it's open it's still quiet) but it's better than not hearing it at all I guess

  1. Check a ringer volume and profile. Press a volume key to see the volume status bar at the top of the screen. Use the volume up and volume down keys to adjust the loudness of the ringer (scale 0 to 30). Tap on the text next to the ringer icon to change the profile (vibrate only, ring+vibrate).
  2. Check if the issue is with a specific ringtone: Go to Settings > ringtones+sounds > Ringtone, and tap on a playbutton to preview the ringtone.
  3. Switch off the ringer vibration (Settings > ringtones+sound > vibrate) temporary, to determine if your phone is affected by any motion settings i.e. Flip-to-Silence.
  4. Make sure that call forwarding is not switched on: Tap the phone icon > ... > Settings.
If the problem persists, restart your phone by pressing and holding the power and volume down keys simultaneously until the phone vibrates. Release and the phone will restart. After this operation, you may need to re-adjust the volume and set date+time on the phone. Note that this does not remove your personal content.

Check out this link for a PDF manual for your phone. Just copy and paste into your browser.

Ringtone
Set ringtone volume and incoming call alert options:
1. Press [Menu], then press "Settings".

The volume settings available are:

Motorola RAZR- I have assigned personal ringtones for a few addresses. The problem I have is that it is using that ringtone when I receive a text message from them also. I don't want that to happen because...

Ok nice and slow
(1) go to settings (2) Then to ring styles (3) Then to Loud Details press change (4) Then go down until you highlight messages then change the tones from there either Sound,Music, Voice Notes or what ever you pick I hope that works.

Setting ringtones as you text message alert tones

You CAN set a song as your text alert tone. Here are the steps:
1- Go to: Settings> Profiles>
2- Select your options (e.g. normal, vibrate and ring, etc....)
3- select Options> Customize (2)>
4- Highlight "Message Sound" and select Options> Customize (2),
5- Then browse to the folder your song or sound is in (e.g. audio) and select the file you want to use and save it.

I noticed that the songs have to be under 30 seconds to use as any type of alert tone for calls or texts.

Hopefully this helps.
