I bought a Gateway monitor Fpd2185W about 2 years ago. Same problem here. It got to the point where I could not even turn off the monitor without unplugging it. After a bunch of **** from Gateway support, I decided to research this problem online. I found a website with the correct caps that you need to replace on the power board. The website is http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=P5155-ND. On the power supply board look for a slight bulge on top of the cap the cap is supposed to be flat. Also look for any oozing around the cap. I am going to also need a logic board that you plug your monitor into. Mine is fried in one corner. But I do not know where to get one..yet. After a few emails to Gateway support I told them I am not going to buy another monitor from them ever. They offer only 1 year warranty. There are others offering 3 years!! But at any rate If someone would be kind enough to tell me where I can get a logic board for this thing that would be great!!
