You have likely changed the language setting on your keyboard. Typically you can change the language setting by pushing ctrl+shift. Most computers are set up for 3 languages, so you should try cycling through all three languages to get your keyboard working.

If this does not work, this site tells you how to change your language setting:

My probook 4510s is set up with US keyboard, how can I change it to UK setting?

  • Right-click on the taskbar and click on "Toolbars."
  • Step 2 Click on "Language bar." If this option doesn't appear on the menu, you only have one language on your computer. Refer to the steps in Section 2 to add languages to your computer. If you have to add "English (United Kingdom)," you may have to restart your computer before you can change the keyboard layout.
  • Step 3 Click on "Input language."
  • Step 4 Select "English (United Kingdom)" from the list of languages.
  • Step 5 Click on "Keyboard layout" and select the "English (United Kingdom)" keyboard layout and apply the changes.
    Add Languages to Your Computer
  • Step 1 Click on the "Start" icon.
  • Step 2 Click on "Control Panel."
  • Step 3 Click on "Clock, Language, and Region."
  • Step 4 Click on "Regional and Language Options."
  • Step 5 Click on the "Keyboards and Languages" tab and click on "Change keyboards..."
  • Step 6 Click on "Add..." in the "Installed Services" section.
  • Step 7 Select "English (United Kingdom)" on the list and check each of the entries under "Keyboard" and "Other," and then click on "OK" to close the menu.
  • Step 8 Click on "Apply" and "OK" to add "English (United Kingdom)" to your computer.

I cannot get a question mark, the upper case E with a grave (green) on keyboard appears

When you get that it usually means the language setting for the keyboard has changed.

The standard key markings are valid for most english language settings. US is the default. To change this go to start - settings - control panel. Then look for Regional and language settings. Click on that and then in the window that open there are three tabs along the top. The middle one should say language, click on that one. In the Text Languages and input options area click on the Detail button. A new window opens. At the top it shows your language. And in the box under it will show your lnaguage and installed keyboard layout. So if I were using Canadian English and the US keyboard then the keys will function as marked. To change the keyboard language click the add button, then select your language and then the keyboard layout. When you click ok it goes back to the previous window but now will show the original setup and the new one you just made. Just remove the original and apply and close everything and your keyboard will now produce the correct characters.

    Character keys problem

I doubt the keyboard itself is at fault. Try it on another computer and see if it does the same thing. If it works okay on the other system, then the Keyboard settings on your machine were probably changed. Go to the Control Panel and look at the Keyboard or Regional Options entry, and make sure that it is set to English. If your computer has foreign language support turned on, there may also be a control in the system tray at the lower right of the screen that has been changed from EN to some other language.

Hey my friends keyboard is typing letters incorrectly, can you help? It started when she tried remote assistance on the windows live program, and she has windows xp with a gateway keyboard

It may be that the default settings for the keyboard have been set to a different language/regional area.

You could try changing it and see if it works.

If you wish to change the keyboard layout, you can do this by right clicking on your taskbar and select "language bar". When this is done, right click on the keyboard symbol and select "settings".

Alternatively, go start>control panel>regional settings> and change it there.

    Computer keyboard.

The problem does not lie in your keyboard, but rather the keyboard layout settings. Go to control panel, keyboard options and select the standard US settings.
