I'm using mercury mainboard kvm266pm-u with sempron cpu but it freezes a few minutes after i start up the PC, even in bios set up. the link for bios update to the main site is not working. how do i solve...

Is your CPU and HSF fitted correctly?
Usually if you get freezes and shutdowns it is due to overheating.
You may also have a virus/malware infection.
Boot into safe mode with networking (F8)
turn off system restore
Run a virus scan
Download Malwarebytes and give it a full scan.

Open the link below for the Mercury KVM266PM motherboard manual; (You'll need Adobe reader to view the manual, download Adobe for free at: http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/ ).
Manual link;
http://www.mercury-pc.com/download/uploaded/drivers/KVM266PM%20(1.0)%20COMPLETE.pdf
Mercury no longer provides the AC'97 driver for this motherboard on Mercury's web site. Click on this Mercury driver link;
http://www.mercury-pc.com/downloads_list.php?productid=483
However you can download the AC'97 driver from Realtek.
Click on the next link which will take you to Realtek;
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Try installing version A4.06 for, Windows 98Gold/98se/Me/2000/XP/2003(32/64 bits) for Driver only.
Enter your bios & make sure the AC97 is set to AUTO. See page 35 in the manual.

Good luck!

The best place to download drivers is always the manufacturer's website. The XP drivers for this system are found here :)

CPU installation

jamie,

on the mobo there should be a little table next to a set of jumpers that tells u what jumpers to set for the multipliers. These days this is done in the bios but if your board is old (P3 which it is) there should be some white set of jumpers about 3 in a row near the cpu with a little table printed next to it. You should set it up so the multipliers adds up to 933...my guess is you should double what you have now to get it to 900 which is closest u are going to get

good luck
