SOURCE: Dyson DC07 burning smell.

sounds like it is on the way out this may be because 1, you need to clean the filter cos when its dirty it stop air from going around the motor witch makes it get hot and overheat 2, also if you allow the bin to get to full this will also stop the motor from geting air to it so a good clean on your filter and bin will allow air to the motor then no overheating should accur

SOURCE: Dyson DC07 Vaccum - brush will not turn

Hi.

Your Dyson has A clutch unit this engages the brush roller when you pull the handle back to vacuum.

Check the clutch control knob which is at the bottom left side of machine looking from the front.
It should rotate to drive position when handle is pulled back.

If it doesnt turn the knob by hand to drive & try the machine.

If you still have no brush rotation after doing all this then UNPLUG machine from mains supply.
Now lay machine on its side & remove the sole plate, This is the cover over the brush roller.
Turn the 3 plastic screws to unlock postition & lift sole plate off.

Now try to yurn brush roller using your hand. It should turn freely if it is difficult to turn look for any foriegn object obstructing the roller.

If no obstruction found then remove the brush roller from the machine & check the bearings in the ends of the brush roller one or both may be siezed up if they are then new brush roller will solve the problem.

If bearings are good then either the clutch is faulty or the second belt which goes clutch to motor has snapped & will need replacing.

It is difficult to fully explain the clutch removing procedure,
But there are service manuals available for these repairs at this site

SOURCE: dyson 18 losing suction

Check the HEPA filter if it has one. This bit of foam gets clogged over time and significantly reduces the suction especially if you've been vacuuming a lot of very dusty areas i.e. dust from building work etc. Just wash the filter with lots of water and leave to dry before reinserting.

SOURCE: motorized brush bar not turning on Dyson Vacuum

Apparent common failure is that either the thin yellow and or blue motor drive wires that run from the LH side of the vacuum where the "control board" is located down into the hinge / ball area become stretched and then fray and eventually break. Happened to my Dyson twice. First repaired under warranty, second took about 20 minutes. You need a Torx screwdriver to remove the LH panel ( 4 screws) and also an access panel (2 screws) at the side of the ball which permits access to the blue / yellow wire connectors. I replaced with a new wire and connectors having fed the wires through the access hole making sure sure enough wire was available for the movement of the handle. Also ensure that when the covers are replaced they do not trap any wires underneath.

How do i fix dyson DC41 Animal vacuum upright cleaner it has burning smell coming from motor and it blew the fuse box when i WENT TO VACUUM. the wire flex is a bit over twisted

You most certainly shorted this out and will need a new cord. Easy fix but you will have to take it apart and find where it failed. I doubt the motor fried but it is possible. When you take it apart look for the burn mark left by the electrical arc. That is the point you fix.

Dyson not working making a loud noise and smelling of burning

This is probably due to the motor going bad. Before purchasing a new vacuum, get an estimate for replacing the motor.

HI , I REPLACED MOTOR BRUSHES ,BUT MOTOR IS MAKING A FUNNY NOISE ,AS IF MOTOR IS LOOSING CONTACT ,LIKE A BURNING SMELL. CHEERS

Hi there,
Most likely you have a damaged commutator. I used to change the brushes on the dyson vacuums but what i found is that it is almost never completely successful. THe Dyson motor is not as good quality as say a miele and when the brushes go they normally cause damage to the commutator. THe best bet is to replace the motor. If you were able to swap the brushes a motor change will be easy for you. If you are in Australia you can get the motors from VacuumSpot or Nelson Vacuums.

Motor is making a knocking noise with a burning smell and sparks can be seen when switching on

Sounds like ur FiLTER is CLOGED!

Air was blocked going in the motor thats why ur smeling smething burning, means ur motor is starting to overheat!

Spark in the motor is NORMAL when the CARBON BRUSHES is touching the ARMATURE!

My suggestion is to CLEAN & WASH the filter or buy a NEW one!

Hope that cleans evrything on ur probs!

Dyson dc14 died, no power after burning smrll

It sounds like the motor has overheated and has now been irrepairable damaged.
The motor has a built in over-current trip to protect itself (and you if it seriously overheated and caught fire). This normally automatically resets itself, however if the motor has just about had it, the moment it is switched on, it just trips again.

The primary cause of motors overheating is that the filters are not cleaned or replaced frequently enough. Dont be fooled by Dyson's "lifetime filters". They need to be regularly cleaned and replaced when necessary.

Replacement motors are avaible on eBay for about £25, however repalcing one requires good DIY skills and tools.

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com and see if you feel you can tackle it yourself. If not, take it to a repair shop or call the Dyson helpline.

Won't Turn On

If you are getting a motor smell, then either something got into the fan and stalled it, or the motor went bad. Afraid it will have to be taken apart and checked. Can you turn the brush roll, if not there maybe a problem there.
