Have a GE refrigerator side by side came home electronic display was out, food compartment was warm, ice melted in freezer, food thawing but lights were on . What's happening no motor sounds run

Without your model number I can't give you a part number but I can tell you the part. GE refridgerators have what they call a main dome control board. This is located on the back of the machine, usually closer to one side or the other and about halfway up the machine. This board really controls everything, even as far as the dispenser in the door. I personally think this is a poor design, even though they look awesome cosmetically. Locate your model number, usually in the refridgerator side somewhere, and go to www.repairclinic.com to order the part. This is becuase they have a return policy that no one can beat. If you install the part and it doesn't work they will take it back and refund you, where as any other part distributor have a no return policy on electronic parts. Good Luck, but you won't need it. This is an easy repair.

How to fix a leak inside a refrigerator

Turn off the refrigerator. Remove the rear panel and floor cover from the freezer. You will see a lot of ice covering everything. Remove/thaw this ice.

In the back of the freezer, under the coils is a drain. When the defroster runs and melts the ice on the coils, the water is supposed to run down the drain to a pan where it is evaporated by a fan under the refrigerator. Often, this drain freezes shut. Then, the water has no place to go but though the vent into the refrigerator.

Melt the ice in this drain with a hair dryer or small quantities of hot water. You will know the drain is clear when the water level suddenly drops. Finish drying everything in the freezer and replace the panels.

Now, you will no longer have water dripping inside your refrigerator.

I have a Frigidaire Model FRT18s6aws year model 06. It will thaw an d refreeze food and ice on and off. When it thaws it seems the fan is working fine and is triing to get cold and the next day everything...

When your unit thaws - do you hear the compressor kicking on at the start of a cycle? If not, maybe the compressor relay it hanging up somehow. Or the compessor capacitor is malfunctioning. It is NOT a compressor problem though.

If you are capable of getting to the defrost heater circuit, you should check the defrost thermostat and timer (if there is not ice build up behind the panel. If the defrost circuit is active too long it could cause that condition - but you defrost heater is not the problem unless there is an ice build up.

The freezer needs to be defrosted. Take everything out and put it in an icechest with some cold packs, and let the freezer sit open and off to allow the ice to thaw, use a pot or something to take the chunks of ice out and put in. Try not to get your floor too wet, but when too much ice builds up, the cooler cannot cool down the air, and the freezer is only staying cold because the ice is there, but the ice will melt since it has no way to stay cold enough to be below 32 degrees without the cooling unit to keep the temperature low.

Ice on the bottom of freezer

Sounds like your freezer drain is blocked. first, turn the temperature controller up a little bit, maybe one or two stops, then wait 24 hours to see if the ice melts at all. If it starts to go away, then you may need to toss a few towels on the floor next to the freezer because 6 inches of ice melt is gonna make a mess.

After you get that sorted out, turn the temp down one click to make sure that everything is staying cold, and that the ice is not reforming.

good Luck!

Frigidaire professional series. Feels cool inside but the air is not circulating and everything is starting to thaw out, ice is melting.

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

New Frigidaire side by side running constantly and still warm

If the frost build up is on the back panel of the freezer then it has a defrost problem which causes a no cool situation. Let me know more about this frost buildup and what you have done.
