Question about Heating & Cooling

Re:Whirlpool Dehumidifier Model# AD40DSL5 This product still runs fine but it does not remove moisture from the basement, The water bucket is empty and dry. I removed the outer-casing and cleaned the inside comletely. There is no filter on this unit. Being that it was "caked" with heavy, moist dust-I'm wondering if some easily replaceable part has "blown". I believe this unit was around $180. Can it be fixed?

I have the same issue - the unit will operate and will turn off when adjusted below the sensitivity threshold ... I've had this unit running steady for a few years with the bin draining into my sump pump in the basement. Just this past week I noticed the basement abnormally damp, and the unit was running but the resevoir was bone dry.

This generation of Whirlpool dehumidifiers and the one that came after it just don't run forever like they used to. If you hear the compressor start to cycle when it is first turned on and you verify that it's fan is circulating air, it should be removing water. If it's not, a service tech would probably charge you $30+ to tell you that the compressor is not producing sufficient pressure. Time to buy another one.

Its not blowing any warm air out,and doesent seem to be collecting water..Has the Thermostat gone? thats if they have one.Thanks. (Airforce Dehumidifier Problems)

Dave, not knowing what make or model dehumidifier you have, makes it impossible to tell you if a thermostat (actually, it's a condensation sensor) is available or not. However, heat is only generated when the compressor runs. The fan alone won't generate heat.

There are several things that can cause the problem you're having.

1. The moisture extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 35%

2. The Air Intake Filter is dirty and needs to be removed and cleaned.

3. The cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned.

4. If this is a basement application, the temperature at floor level is colder than at chest level.
Dehumidifiers struggle to work at temperatures are 65 degrees F or lower. Raising the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table or counter top that can handle the weight of the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water will generally solve the problem.

If none f the above solves the problem, the condensation sensor may have failed or the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas.

Hope this helps you to troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thank you for your service and thanks for choosing FixYa.

About the best one for a reasonable price is the fridgedair FAD704TDP70. It runs extremely quiet has a 70 pint capacity and costs about $250.00.It is rated for 1400 square foot basement.Hope this helps you. Thanks

Simplicity 28 dehumidifier runs but not taking moisture out of the basement. Worth fixing and if so, is there a repair service available in Sounth Western Nova Scotia?

It sounds like a refrigeration problem might be a leak in the system or the compressor isnt coming on either way its cheaper to replace the dehumidifier. Hope this helps out dehumidifiers are very disposable.

Keeps filling with water and shutting off.

Air conditioners remove moisture from the air like a dehumidifier does. With portable units it is captured in a removable container and when full will turn the unit off so it won't overflow onto the floor. There should be option for a hose to attach to the bucket which could be run to a drain so you won't have to keep emptying the bucket. Just remember the a/c unit needs to be higher than the drain.
