Engines need 4 things: Spark, compression, fuel, exhaust

1) Does spark plug have spark?
Take out plug, put plug wire back on plug, hold plug threads against metal part of engine, pull cord, do you see spark between plug and engine?

2) While spark plug is out, put finger over hole and pull cord. Do you feel suction that shows compression?

3) What about the exhaust port? Is the screen blocked with carbon deposits and dirt? Soak it in WD-40.

4) Do you have 2-cycle oil in gasoline? Do you have fresh gas? Did you leave gasoline in tank for several months? Is the carburetor clogged with gum?

5) What about the air filter? Does it fire up without air filter? Will it fire if you spray WD-40 into carburetor? Can you keep it going while spraying WD-40 into carburetor?
If it fires with WD-40 but won't keep going on it's own, then the gas is not getting to carburetor or carburetor is clogged with gum.

Makita dpc7311 wont start after heating up. first start pretty easy after warming up will not idle.

The deposits on the spark plug are not a real big concern. The issue may be related to hoses that are cracked due to age or the jets on the carb may need to be reset. There is a high and low screw to do this. Also make sure that the woodruff key that holds the flywheel to the crank is not loose.

hi there

paul 46 here.

all being well and compression and spark and timming , muffler is clear , carby is clean , and diaphrams are all ok , fresh mix , and fuel filter and lines are good

does the unit run with 2 stroke mix in the plug hole - ?
if yes assume compression and spark are ok,, if no check compression and spark and muffler

will the unit run with 2 stroke mix sprayed into the carby throat ?

if it does sounds like you have a air leak somewhere in the intake system

could be at barrel base gasket, c/case joint, manifold boot/ block gasket, carby gasket , impulse hose ,if this unit has one , c/case main seals leaking

2 strokes need air tight c/cases in order to pump fuel / air / oil mixture from c/case to cylinder
and to create a vacuum for entry of fuel/ air / oil mix from carb to c/case

symptoms of air leak are -: hard to start, wont idle, stalling, low power, inconsistant idle, over rev
overheat

pressure and vacuum testing can be done by blocking off intake and exhaust with rubber and metal plates , then fitting adapter to spark plug hole , and placing piston at bdc , pressureise cylinder to 7 to 8 psi of pressure and check areas , base gasket, manifold joint, main seals, , impulse hose ? for leaks with soapy water - if leaking bubbles will be evident

if no leaks and pressure is held at 7 psi for at least 2 minutes with dropping - presure test is good
next do the same test using vaccuum again go to 20 - 30 inch / vaccuum

if vaccuum held unit is ok

suggest take a good look at carby particularly if P and V test are good and spark coil tests good with a coil load test using a spark gap of 6.00 mm to stress the coil ( simulates spark under compression load)

have a look and let me know what you find

Kia ora my 4x4 quad bayou spark plug black not much spark wont start like no petrol getting in engine carby all good firstly cutting out then start no problem now wont start

Sounds like it is running too rich therefore causing sooting (Black) this will inhibit the spark from igniting the fuel as you need a 14.7/1 air/fuel mix. Suggest you screw in the air screw and count turns, it should be 1 1/2 to 2 turns. Unscrew it back by that amount of turns if you don't have a manual to check?

Also check the air intake is not blocked

I want to check if a makita rbc 230 brush wood cutter runs on petrol (neat) or two stroke mixture

I think the model your speaking of is the RBC30. It is a 2 stroke mixture. The 430 models are 4 stroke and do not require mixing oil and fuel. They are made by Ryobi for Makita.

Here is the RBC 30

RBC30SESA
  • Powerful 30cc 2-Stroke Petrol Engine
  • Easy-Start Carburettor
  • Expand-It™ Attachments Compatible
  • 18"/46cm Cutting Path Width
  • 2 Year Domestic Warranty
Info on the 430

RYRBC430SES
  • New 4 Stroke Design
  • Light in Weight 7.3kg
  • Safe Anti-kick Feature
  • Reduced Noise Levels, Lower Emissions
  • 2 Year Warranty
This is pretty much the entire line up of their brush cutters:

There is not a 230 model.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a 1991 honda cr 250 I cant get to start at fist gas ran right thru carb and out bottom i took carb apart and got the floats to stop sticking cleaned it out with carb cleaner put back together but...

try a new spark plug. if u fowl out a plug some time they will not fire under compression.2 strokes need. fuel, fire and air, very simple engines.it is possible crank seal are bad .that doesn't allow the engine to create vacuum in the crank case.thus fuel and air will not make it to combustion chamber.

Makita 6410 petrol disc cutter

First of all, make sure you have followd the correct start up procedure.
(1)Throttle on and locked in start position, (2)choke on and pull a few times. Saw should fire briefly and cut out. (3)Now switch to idle (half choke if applicable) and pull another couple of times. Saw should now fire and run. If you have pulled it too many times in the full choke position you will have flooded the engine. To rectify this you will need two people. One of you should hold the machine steady on the ground with no choke on and throttle fully open. The other should also steady the machine and pull the starter in quick succesion. This could take ten or so pulls but it should start the engine in the case of flooding. Sometimes it will splutter a couple of times before fully starting and it will normally bog down a bit for the first few seconds as it spits out the excess fuel/oil mix.
If you got to point (3) as it shown above, and then the saw wouldn't start, or hadn't fired and died then there could be a few different problems. basic checks are for, clean filter, fresh/clean fuel, clean spark plug (ie, not oily/choked with carbon build up). When checking the spark plug, if it has fuel/oil mix on it then ther is probably aeither a compression problem/air leak or no spark. To check for a spark leave the plug unscrewed but fitted into cap, rest it against a metal part of the saw and pull the starter with the elec switch on. You should see a healthy blue spark. WARNING, do not rest the spark plug near the plug hole as if it does spark it could ignite any fuel/oil mix that is pumped out of the cylinder. I've had many a singed eyebrow from this happening. If there is no spark, check to make sure the cap is attatched securely to the lead, and try repacing the plug. If this doesn't help you will need to get the coil, ht lead and wiring tested.
