Question about Husqvarna "Chain Saw - 16" Bar, 3 Hp

1 Answer

Hi. I have a husqvarna 272 chain saw. I'm the original owner. The problem I have is it cuts great at full throttle downward but when you do an upcut it loses alot of power, about half. I think it has to do with the throttle linkage but I'm not sure. Any help?? Thank you

You need to remove the wire throttle rod and gently increase its lenght by bending, do not over bend or it will increase the idle speed.

Hi Mike,

Sounds like your carb needs to be leaned out a bit. Are you closing your choke all the way after it warms up?

Hope this helps,

If it does, please place a vote or comment for me. Thanks,

My husqvarna 178 keeps cutting out on full throttle have tried to adjust the L and H settings with no success any ideas?

As far as i remember Husqvarna never produced a model 178, however if adjusting the mixture screws does not help there is either a fuel blockage in the fuel filter in the tank ( replace filter ), or the fuel screen in the carb ( strip clean and service carb ), check the fuel hose hose for splits or cracks, asthis will greatly effect the running

Saw runs great, however when cutting;the kerf goes to the left.Replaced the chain recently and it cut fine for a few cuts then started the same problem. Could it be the bar grove is worn and needs...

You probably have a warped bar. Remove side cover and chain, then remove and reverse bar ( move the top to the bottom ) . Pour bar and chain oil on the tip of your bar and spin gear inside with a flat screwdriver to allow oil total penetration. re - install chain and side cover, adjust chain and tighten cover.Make sure you keep the oil reservoir full - refill everytime you add fuel. When it starts cutting crooked just reverse the bar again.

Bar & Chain combo interchange

A longer bar will allow you to cut larger trees easier but if you don't need to cut larger diameter trees and just want to cut faster you can get a more aggressive chain but use caution as you should be VERY experienced as the chain has the ability to pull you right into the work if you are not careful! Using a very aggressive chain should only be done by professionals with full safety gear.

I have a new hasky 460 rancher stalls when given

If it stumbles at full throttle, the fast (high) idle screw is set too rich. Using your owner's manual, locate the high idle adjustment and back it off in very very small increments. Do this until the saw will run wide open without stumbling.

I have a Husqvarna 55 and it will cut but not great. The chain will stop and the engine will bog even on full throttle. Is it the clutch?

Is your chain sharp? Sometimes you hit stuff in wood without realizing it and it dulls your chain, dirt, nails, trash, it's all bad for the chain. If you aren't getting enough oil on your chain while cutting it will also shorten the life of your chain dramatically.

How do I adjust the mixtures?

Is this helpful?
The "L" adjusts acceleration and smooth running. The "H" adjustment is almost completely how it performs at full throttle (should be adjusted for performance in a cut IMO). HTH

Saw will not cut , chain stops turning when chain touches wood

If your saw has a removable sprocket, Check the drive sprocket on the clutch drum. Either the the spline is worn or the drive link on the chain is not properly seated in the sprocket well.

Need true chain/bar size for my husqvarna Model 254 chainsaw

Maximum bar size of 20" but would recommend 18", if it is running sluggish, check compression, if low replace the piston, if it is 135psi or more then make sure the airfilter is clean and then tune the carb and make sure you get good revs and throttle response throughout the rev range, use the typical carb adjustments from the owners manual from the Husky web site. This is a 5hp saw and is capable of cutting some big lumps of hardwood so no excuses on the power front
