Paper jam error, but there is nothing jammed.

I did all the basic steps. I have a degree in IT, and have a technical knowledge of hardware. There is no paper jammed. There is no message, when the printer is idle. It happens when I try to print. The error message appears as soon as the paper gets into the first roller. I checked that the roller holds the paper well. It looks like a sensor or other electronics gives a false signal.

  • junk210 Oct 08, 2010

I also cleaned the sensors before. When I try to feed the printer through another tray it causes the same error, it tells either "JAM TRAY 1", or "JAM MP TRAY", depending on which tray I am trying to use. It looks like the sensor recognizes the paper properly, but something else is causing the error. Thank you

  • junk210 Oct 08, 2010

I did all these steps. It does the same when you try to copy, so it is not related to the computer setup in anyway. If you believe it has something with the printer configuration, or its memory, then maybe you know a maintenance code to reset the printer, or firmware? Thank you.

  • junk210 Oct 08, 2010

MFC-9440CN. Please read previous posts, before asking me again to unplug the printer from the power, as all the basic steps were done already. Thank you for your help.

  • junk210 Oct 08, 2010

I checked paper jam already very well. The error does not come up after re-powering the printer, until I try to print. Also left the paper between the rollers and re-powered the printer. Bottom line: when I power on the printer with the paper left between the rollers, It gives the error, which is proper in this case. However when there is no paper left, the printer does not give error on re-powering, until the printing. Thank you.

  • junk210 Oct 08, 2010

The idea of resetting the printer sounds good, but the procedure you provided is probably for another printer. This one does not have a power button. It only has an electric switch. I know there there are maintenance codes you can access by powering on and holding MENU key. However, I don't know what means each of the numeric codes, and which one would do a hard reset.

  • junk210 Oct 11, 2010

I would like to know the maintenance code to reset the printer.

  • junk210 Oct 11, 2010

I did the reset, and the problem persists.
In the feeder is a sensor to detect if the paper is getting into the roller. As soon as the paper touches this sensor, the paper stops moving and the error comes up.

Use your vacuum cleaner to suckout the dust from powered off printer. There may be some speck of paper lying around in the channel somewhere.

This may not help everyone that I send it to, but it is worth a try.
I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press
the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer.
The reason for this is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

Has the machine recently started to jam more often? If so, it could be a worn belt and/or worn fuser drive gear.
See if this is a problem.

Anyway, you might try a forced reset. Check the manual. You usually have to simultaneously push a couple or so buttons on the control panel to force a reset.

If you don't have the manual get it here.

if this does not do tell me and we should check some other components

Before concluding that there are no jams, try to open every parts of the printer that you can to enhance your view and have a thorough check. Even a small bit of paper can cause the error 'Paper Jam'.

First thing, but you probably have already tried, is to just unplug from the power source for at least 2 minutes.. then replug. I assume you've done this though correct?

Also, what make / model printer is it to confirm?

Hello

Check the printer for any jams or blockages, and remove any that exist.

Delete any print jobs in the queue. Go to the printer's control box and double click on the printer you want, then select any print jobs and select "Delete."

Turn the printer completely off and unplug it. Wait about 30 seconds and turn the printer back on.

Restart the computer. Close all your programs, shut down the computer and wait a few seconds. You may want to turn the printer off again. Restart the printer and the computer.

Go back to the printer panel and select the printer, and then select "Delete." Select the "Add Printer Wizard" and add the printer again.

Download the latest drivers by going to Brother's website and finding the latest driver revisions. Right click on the printer, and click "Properties." Look in all the different tabs to find a button that says something similar to "New Driver" or "Update driver." After selecting, point the wizard to find the new drivers that were downloaded.

I am pretty sure you have done the basics to troubleshoot this problem including the universal rule of powering it off and powering it on after 30 secs.

Clean the sensor with a canned air. There could be toner, paper dust, shredded paper or what not's that is blocking it. It is also possible that the paper sensor may have shifted or became loose due to rough handling during shipping. .

Hi,

  • 1

Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.

  • 2

    Turn off the printer.

  • 3

Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.

  • 4

Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.

  • 5

If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.

  • 6paper jam error, but there - clear-printer-paper-1.6-120x120.jpg jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('#jsArticleStep6 span.image a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/a00/3f/31/clear-printer-paper-1.6-800X800.jpg'); });

If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.

  • 7 jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('#jsArticleStep7 span.image a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/a00/3f/31/clear-printer-paper-1.7-800X800.jpg'); });

If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B). Don't force anything, though.

  • 8

Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.

  • 9

If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.

My HP Laserject 5100 Printer has the Paper Jam Problem. After that, I check printer. But i haven't seen any paper jam. When i print out, nothing show on paper and show the paper jam.. How to fix?

    Hi,

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

HP PSC 1610 - Keep getting paper jam error with no paper jam.

Hi there ok Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

    Error code E-04

    Hi,

I would check that there is nothing inside the paper feed system. The smallest piece of paper might cause a jam. Take the inks out and give the printer a good shake then put inks in and try again.

IHave you had a jam recently and pulled the paper out to clear it?
