With new batteries, chair has no lights, Out of service for approx 1 year. Worked when parked.. What do I look for next?

Most batteries will go bad when then sit for two years. You will need to test the voltage at the joystick. A volt meter is required for this test. They are three holes in the end of the joystick. They are labeled 1-2-3. The probes of the volt meter most go in holes marked 1 and 2. The red probe goes in #1 and the black probe in #2. If the batteries are good you should get a voltage reading between 24 and 26volt dc. If you get less than 22volts dc the chair will not run and less than 18 the chair will not turn on.

perhaps since your chair is over 2.5 years old you have underlaying problems such as motorheatup or excessive drag per a locked bearing or a bushingtrhat is out of lube.somebody needs to at everything that moves thathas to do withload carry,or powertrain.

Did Medicare pay for Mom's chair? If they did then they will pay for 80% the repair to the chair. You can contact Repair Express @ 1-877-581-3733 or Roadrunner Mobility @ 1-800-467-2668 they are both excellent repair companies and will schedule a tech to pick up mom's chair leave a loaner and fix the chair for her. Now if Mom bought her chair then she will have to pay for the batteries and all other repairs needed (lets hope not). The chair needs 2 U1 sealed batteries and they can be purchased through the provider where she got the chair or at any good battery outlet like Interstate Battery. I would avoid Internet stores because of the shipping costs. Do not get them from Wal Mart or any other chain store because they do not sell sealed deep cycle batteries required for your chair. The batteries will cost you around $200.00 for both. The provider will probably charge you more. You have to unplug the joystick cable, remove the seat from the base and take the shroud off the base and there you will see the 2 batteries. Remove the wiring harness and remove the batteries reinstall the new batteries wiring them like the old ones, replace the shroud and the seat hook up the joystick cable push the on/off switch and pray that it comes on (lol). You definitely need new batteries. There are 2 size U-1 batteries in the chair that will last between 1.5 and 2 years. Get the deep cycle sealed gel lead acid batteries, preferably AGM. Hope this helps.

Your batteries are most likely dead. If your chair was covered by Medicare or insurance, you can get new batteries every year and they are covered.

Some dealers will try to get you to pay out of pocket for this service call, but let them know you won't and you'll be fine. To find a dealer that will service your particular chair, call Pride directly at 1-800-800-8586

imwaltz Sorry buddy but if it sat that long the batteries are probably too low for the charger to pick up and charge. to bad you didn't just charge those batteries once a month while you were laid up. You will have to get new batteries. If Medicare paid for your chair they will pay for most of the repair costs. Ranch well the red flash indicates a low battery and the 5 flashes indicate a bad left brake. Now try charging the batteries until you get a green light on your charger then turn on the chair it shouldn't flash the red if the batteries are accepting the charge. If your batteries are 2-3 years old it could be time to change them. If Medicare paid for your chair then they will pay most of the repair costs. You can contact your provider for help or a service company like Roadrunner Mobility @ 1-800-467-2668 or Repair Xpress @ 1-877-581-3733. If Medicare did buy the chair then you are eligible for a new chair every 5 years and yours is almost 8 years old. Contact a local provider that you trust to check into getting you a new chair. Hi I really don't know the cost of the brake because it depends where you get it. You can contact Invacare tech support @ 1-800-333-6900 and ask about the brake and the cost With some chairs the brake is part of the motor and can't be sold seperately. Did Medicare buy your chair? If so they will pay for the repair. If they did contact Repair Xpress @ 1-877-581-3733 or Roadrunner Mobility @ 1-800-467-2668 and ask to get your chair repaired. Even if Medicare Didn't pay for your chair both of these Services can quote you a cost of repair Hope this helps

Zim When you turn the power on and all the lights on the battery level are lit and you move the joystick forward Do you hear a clicking sound coming from the motors? You are not getting any flashes on the lights? If you don't hear the electric brakes energize or click when you move the joystick then they are probably stuck to the motor housing. Try putting the chair in freewheel and trying to push it like a manual chair. It should roll freely. If it doesn't then the brakes are stuck and you won't get any sort of error code. I don't know what brand of chair you have so I can't tell you what steps to take to free up the brakes. Try rocking the chair back and forth to freeup the brake pads when you have it in freewheel If you are mechanically inclined you can take the brakes off the back of the motors and try to unstick the pads but be careful not to break the wiring from the motor harness to the brakes. make sure the connectors at the batteries are not loose and battery fuse is plugged in all the way
