Question about GE Profile Performance 25.2 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser TFX25PPBWW

4 Answers

I've had a GE Profile side by side (model # GSS25SGPCSS) with in door water and ice dispenser for approx. 6 years. This week the in door water dispenser stopped working. I removed and replaced the filter and water is flowing to the filter which is in the fresh food compartment. When the lever in the dispenser is depressed a click is heard as if the unit is calling for water but none comes out.

I ordered the switch thanks. Do you have any input on how to replace it? What is the easiest way to remove the panel and get at it?

    Tim,

Thanks for your help to date and I will contact you when the part comes. Either for more advice or to let you know that it worked. Hopefully its the latter. Talk to you soon. First time using this site and so far I am very impressed.

    Tim,
I received the switch and replaced it today but it was not the problem. I didn't believe it was the issue because the light would come on and the dispenser sounds like it is calling for water but it is not flowing. Again water is reaching the filter and ice dispenser. Anymore ideas. I'd hate to call a repairman

  • David Reis Oct 14, 2010

Tim, It was not the switch! I replaced it and the same problem. It calls for water but none flows. Water does reach the filter in the fresh food compartment and the also the ice maker. Please give me another solution.

  • David Reis Oct 15, 2010

I ordered and replaced the swith that Tim thought was the problem but it wasn't. I still don't have water. I was skeptical of the switch diagnosis because it sounds like it is calling for water and the light still goes on. Water is reaching the filter and ice machine works fine.

  • David Reis Oct 15, 2010

Thanks for the quick response. This model has coiled up tubing instead of a tank. These coils don't appear to be frozen and when I depress the dispenser switch I can hear a sound near the coils in the fresh food compartment as is the unit is calling for water.

I do not have access to the comments other fixya consultants might have provided to you. However I believe you have replaced the solenoid that controls the water flow.

Please refer to this diagram and confirm which parts you have replaced apart from the filter (790).

Hello

Open the door and examine the area behind the water dispenser. If the water lines in the door have frozen, water won't flow. Turn on the hair dryer to a medium or high setting. Apply warm air around the front and back of the dispenser. Continue alternating between the front and back of the door for several minutes. Check the dispenser to see if it starts working again. If not, the blockage may be deeper in the system.

Empty the refrigerator and freezer. Store your perishable items in coolers. Unplug the refrigerator, open the doors and allow the refrigerator to sit for 24 hours. Plug it back in and try the dispenser again. If the problem was a frozen line, allowing the appliance to thaw should have corrected it.

Check the water tank behind the vegetable bins to see if it is frozen or cracked, This is hard to visually do, but usually if it is cracked there will be water on the fresh food floor. Low food load in the fresh food section can cause a tank to freeze. If you find it is frozen then turn the temperature up to around 40 degrees. It sounds like a motor problem, I believe the water dispenser on this unit has a little tiny motor that pumps it out. I am looking into this now to verify, but wanted to let you know I'm on it.

Ok it looks like this model does not have a motor like some do. It must be the switch that tells the machine to dispense the water. It is #72 on this list of parts here:

    http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partse...

If you grab a new switch and replace it you should be good to go.

    Thanks so much

You will need to take apart that front panel, take a lot at the diagram again and you will see the screws you need to remove, it's pretty straightforward really. Let me know if you can't get it going when you receive the part.

    Thanks
    Tim

Let me know if you need more help once you get the part. It looked like you made another comment but I think the system was just glitched there for a bit. Anyway, let me know

I have the same fridge and the water line freezes up in the door on a regular basis. I have to use a hair dryer and slowly wait for it to melt. It takes about 30 minutes and then works fine for awhile. It has become quite a habit that I'm not thrilled about. Don't waste your money replacing the board or anything else. GE was no help and I'm now shopping for a new fridge bc of this issue. Needless to say that it won't be a GE! Hope this helps.

make sure that the solenoid valve that lets water into the ice maker is working. you can also double check that there is no blockage in the supply line and at the solenoid.

Water Dispenser not working

If the ice maker is working, and no water is coming out, the water line may be frozen.  This happened to me yesterday, and I followed the advice on ehow.com.  It worked like a charm! Take a hair dryer, and blow hot air up into the dispenser tube, holding the hair dryer about 8-10 inches away.  After about 5 minutes or so, a tiny chip of ice and a couple of drops may pop out.  Fill up a couple of glasses of water to flush it out, and you should be good!

Not getting water from dispenser in door

The connector that is leaking is bad causing tubing to come out and leak. The reason it won't flow is it is iced up inside of the door and no, unfortunately, you can't disassemble the door to get to it. It requires a door replacement. The connector is part number WR02X10471 from www.geappliances.com or GE Factory Service Parts at 1-800-626-2002

Not getting water from dispenser in door

if you can get ice but not water from the dispenser then suspect a frozen water line within the door . Check you get water to the connector at the bottom of the freezer door. Sometimes you can clear the blockage by connecting a steamer to the pipe but this will only be a temporary fix . If the pipe has frozen within 6 inches of the dispenser outlet then there is a heater mod that can be fitted WR49X10173

Front dispenser On GE stainless side by side

Could be the connector at the bottom of the freezer door corroded but it could also be the main PCB failing as the low voltage power supply may be dropping out . By the 'light inside' do you mean in the dispenser or inside the fridge ??
