Question about Washing Machines

Front end washer (fridgidare) At times the washer leaves either spots or lines on clothing. These marks are impossible to remove. We have been very careful about dying the rubber gasket on the door. We have also been advised to leave the door open to allow the door to dry out. These marks are intermittent on the washes

I called in a repair man and he says exactly what you have told me, He also in formed me the stainless steel tub has a 25 year guarantee. However the bearings are shot. The tub itself has excess movement in it and wobbles side to side. Thanks for the offer of documents to help fix it I am not mechanically inclined so would probably make the situation worse. Thanks for confirming this problem.

My email is wrong on the heading

I have a fridgidare front load washer that also had a problem with spots. It happened 2 years ago and I was seeing some brown spots that I could not get off my clothes. After research, I was informed that I had a bearing seal failure and water was getting past the seal and leaking into the inner ball bearing. I proceded to take my washer apart, remove the wash tub and the wash drum, and confirmed that the seal had failed and the bearing has begun to fail. The grease from the failed bearing was the stuff that was staining my clothes with spots.

Fridgidare did not sell the bearing and seal seperately but would only sell the rear wash tub with the bearing and seal for $250 plus shipping. I found a source of the bearings and seal, and replaced them and put my machine back together and it no longer stains my clothes.

If your machine is leaving stains on your clothes it is most likely that the seal has begun to fail. Another thing that I found was the the spin cycle sounded like a jet plane. After the bearing was replaced, the machine is much quieter during the spin cycle. You did not mention what model you have but mine is the FWTR647GHSO model, and I have a document that I used to describe how to take it apart. I can share this if you are interested. Hope this helps you.

Seals and bearings seem to be one the the weakenesses of these machines. Good luck to you on your next washer.

My washer leaves oil spots on my clothes

The only place where oil can enter the wash would be if the bearing seals have failed. It's a major repair, and the entire machine has to be taken apart to replace the bearing and seal.

Brown, rust-like marks on washing

Hello I got a Bosch ClassXX5 and got the same problem, white clothes seemed Grey and some clothes seemed washed but not perfectly, until I discovered that the washing machine did not heat water anymore; after the end of the wash cycle the clothes were cold as the program was initially setup to 40C°.....

I used to think soaps were not up to the task and changed brand often, sadly a Bosch product letting me down was not on my mind, since that brand for me was above the rest, quality, strong, during in the time, having electric tools from Bosch without any problem for years!

Grease, or some substance on clean clothes

You need to thouroughly clean the large door seal in all of its grooves and the inside of the door as well. Just put on gloves and use detergent to do this and rags or pape rtowels. Also make sure the inside of the tub is clean and that you are not overfilling the washer. Good luck.

Front load washer frigidaire leaving small marks on clothes

I have twice taken apart this front loader Frigidaire washer (also sold as Kenmore) to replace the rotted out aluminum spider arm supporting the spin-basket (which seems to universally fall apart within 5 years), and now I started observing the described black stain pattern on the clothes. As with the spider arm breakdown, this problem has nothing to do with water hardness, softeners, detergents, or dryers (I line-dry all my clothes), and everything to do with the poor quality design of this machine. I have not yet positively identified the cause of the black stains, but I suspect that the bearing seal is breaking down and in the process is releasing greasy particles that mix with the clothes and create the described black stain patterns. Unfortunately the repair would cost more than a new machine for most people, as the spider arm is probably just about gone by this stage. I am lucky to own another junk washer for spare parts and am able to fix it myself. For skilled do-it-yourself mechanics, it is possible to find a replacement seal and bearings on the internet, assuming the spider arm is new (over $200 part), or still in good shape.
