Question about Marvin 7060 Utility Heater

1 Answer

Need New Rotary Switch

Have a Marvin 7060 with a rotary switch that has decided to quit. Have located replacement switch on internet, in China with minimum order of 10k. They will not sell individual switch. Where can I get just one, or maybe two incase the three other similar heaters I have in my shop decide to act-up. Any assistance you can provide in locating a switch would be appreciated. Please do not referr me to a repairman unless he sells switches. I paid $29.00 for the heater, not worth repair unless I do it.

I have a Marvin #7060 Portable electric heater which I have mounter on the ceiling rafter and tilted to my bench. It is just perfect for my little ulitity shed. This unit is approx. 7 years old, but has been in use only the last 5 years. Recently have noted the unit does NOT shut off when when string is pulled. The process before was: 1 pull = 1 element on, 2 pulls = 2nd element on (both elements on), 3rd pull = both elements off. NOW unit will not shut completely off. No matter how many times I pull the string to shut it off, only one element shuts off, the other is still on! I have to unplug the unit from the wall to shut it off safely. I am handicapped now and always having to stand up and plug and unplug the heater is quite a chore now. I have been in a wheelchair for over 5 years now and see no hope of ever being able to walk again.

Any help/suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    Respectfully yours.

Im somewhat of a self proclaimed appliance repair man. im very unfamiliar with this product as the one i have was given to me in non working condition but the best i can tell the switch does not rotate when you tilt the heater and is stuck a 0 and im guessing that's the "OFF" position. I have looked on ebay and there is nothing at all under a "Marvin 7060" search heading so i am stumped just like the rest of you.

My rotary dimmer doesn't switch 3-ways. I have to push the dimmer button to "on", then I can use the other switch to turn on/off.

You posted under Leviton rotary dimmer.
Lutron and Leviton have many 3-way dimmer styles, and both make 3-way rotary dimmers.

I remember years ago replacing 3-way switches with dimmers and having same experience as you. One dimmer has to be ON for the other dimmer to dim.

Later I learned when you replace both 3-way switches with dimmers, you buy a control-and-companion dimmer set. One dimmer is main, and it lets you dim from both locations. The two dimmers communicate with each other electronically. Buy these dimmers at lighting store that specializes in fixtures and dimmers. Ask for most experienced salesperson.

I checked to see if rotary dimmers are made in the companion set. And neither Leviton or Lutron show 3-way companion set rotary dimmers.

1) Leviton spec sheet on rotary 3-way dimmers does not show companion dimmer. This indicates that Leviton rotary dimmers don't have capability of communicating with each other.

2) Lutron has image of 3-way rotary dimmers.
Image shows single rotary dimmer in 3-way & 4-way circuit.
This tells me that Lutron does not have companion dimmer for 3-way rotary dimmer.

The pull cord keeps breaking. Can it be replaced, or does it need a new switch?

I replaced cord with metal wire aprox. 2 inches long and reattached cord to that. The metal grill wears out the rope. Of course you'll have to take it apart to get to switch.

Is it difficult to replace the combination light switch

It all depends on the tools you have and if you have patience....this is the task for removing and replacing the switch:

Removal & Installataion
CAUTION These models covered are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS and refer to the precautions in the Chassis Electrical Section.

  1. Make sure the steering wheel is in the center position (wheels in the straight ahead position)
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable first, then the positive cable.
  4. Wait 10-20 minutes for the back-up power to discharge. Do NOT proceed until the back-up power is discharged from the SRS system!
  5. Remove the driver’s side air bag module and steering wheel, as outlined under the Steering Wheel Removal & Installation procedure in this section.
  6. Remove the steering column nacelle, as follows:
    • Open the fascia lower access panel.
    • Remove 3 screws securing steering column nacelle halves together.
    • Release clips securing nacelle together and remove from steering column.

Release front wiper delay connector (3) from column switch mounting bracket and disconnect from harness. Disconnect the wiper switch connector (4), then remove the switch mounting screws (5)

To install:
  1. Install the new switch to bracket and secure with screws.
  2. Connect harness connector to switch.
  3. Connect front wiper delay connector and Install the connector to switch bracket.
  4. Install the passive coil to column lock.
  5. Install the rotary coupler, as follows:
    • Install the rotary coupler to steering column and connect connector to harness.
    • Connect rotary coupler connector to harness and secure to bracket.
  6. Install the steering column nacelle, as follows:
    • Position the nacelle to steering column and secure with clips and screws.
    • Close fascia lower access panel.
  7. Install the steering wheel and driver’s air bag module, as outlined in this section.
  8. Connect the positive, then the negative battery cables.
