HP Pavilion DV2000 running very slowly

I purchased an HP Pavilion DV2000 which runs on Vista. It is extremely slow in opening programs, but the Internet runs quickly. It only has 512MB of RAM- could that be the problem?

Yes! I would not recommend anything below 2GB at minimum. I have one laptop with 2GB and one with 3GB: they both open programs and browse the internet very quickly. Even with just two programs open (Internet Explorer and Outlook 2007) it uses 1.1GB of memory.

Definitely upgrade your memory. I recommend this site:
http://www.4allmemory.com/

Just pick your model and they recommend the memory to pruchase. TIP: order with next day shipping - it's only $10. The free shipping takes 14 days. So unless you're patient (I'm not) the $10 many be worth it.

I should have said "...enter your model number"

Or they have a "Check my system" option that will check your configuration for you and find the compatible upgrade you need.

Presario laptop runs extremely slow. Have run

IF it is HP PC than you can simply go ahead a reload the factory settings in the OS from the Recovery partition without the help of the CDs. Every HP pc have a separate partition where the image of the entire OS is loaded. you can simply go ahead and reload it from that partition. Just follow the following steps-
1. Turn off of the pc completely.
2. Disconnect all the external devices and the internet connection.
3. As soon as you turn on the pc start tabbing the F11 key( for Windows Vista).
4. It will take you to the recovery manager and from there you can just follow the onscreen instructions.

Hp pavilion dv2000 needs to install new operating system

Each antivirus has some limitations regarding the OS you are using. The Kasperkey Antivirus version you are using may not be able to run on Windows Vista.

  • You can use any free anti virus available for your system (as AVG Free).
  • There are other paid version of anti virus softwares specifically for your OS Windows Vista.
  • Almost all antivirus have their Vista Version. Check their websites for details.

My parents HP Pavilion zd8000 (2.8GHz) runs very slowly

It's probably the anti-virus software AND not enough memory.

Un-install the Anti-Virus (Symantec/Norton?)
and use the FREE AVG from grisoft.com.
double the mamory in the computer (If you have 512MB, upgrade it to 1GB).

Hope this helps!

HP Pavillion DV2000 - laptop slow-locks up

Here is what I myself would do.....

1. Remove any antivirus software you have and replace with with Avira AntiVir... its free and works A LOT better than ones you pay for. Download here: www.free-av.com

2. Download and install Malwarebytes AntiMalware from here: www.malwarebytes.org Free version on left side of screen.

3. Remove things running in your startup that are NOT needed by going in to MSCONFIG ( Start > Run > msconfig ) go to startup tab and uncheck everything that is absolutely NOT required... any blank entries, disable them (they are adware/spyware). If you have any questions about what anything is and if it is required, check it against this website: http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

4. After cleaning up the startup list, save/close and restart the computer. When it comes back up, open up the malwarebytes program and click the "Update" tab... check for updates. Also open up the AntiVir and check for updates for it.

5. When the updates are done for BOTH programs, run a FULL scan with malwarebytes on ALL hard drive(s) you have in your computer. As malwarebytes is scanning each file, if it is infected, AntiVir will pop up with a box asking what to do with the file. ANY and ALL detections in AntiVir should be put to Quarantine.

6. After Malwarebytes is done, it will say "Show Results" or whatever.... click that and fix all problems it has. It may need to be restarted.... go ahead and let it.

7. After MBAM is done, you can do a full scan with AntiVir (would not hurt to do so).... all detections go to Quarantine.

8. Download ATF Cleaner from here : http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=25
Go ahead and save it to the desktop..... when its done, double click on it, select all to clean and click OK.... let it do its thing and clean the junk off your hard drive.

9. When that is done, do a defrag on your hard drive(s). After that is done, make a system restore checkpoint and restart.

When all of the above is done, see if it is running better. :)

Hope this helps.

The option for hibernating just disappeared. Somebody told me that it had to do with the video card. I have an hp Pavilion dv2000,Vista OS. I can't find the drivers for the video card, so I can't reinstall...

the disk clean up in vista will have included a large file for hibernate file cleaner if selected to be removed hibernate is disabled

re-enable hibernate if this has happened:

How to enable hibernate option in windows vista for those of you who mistakenly deleted your hibernation file using disk clean up, to re-enable your deleted hibernation file, click the start menu and then go to all programs - accessories - Command Prompt. Right-click command prompt and select "run as administrator".

When Command prompt has opened, enter the following

powercfg /hibernate on (note the space between powercfg and /) so it's not powercfg/hibernate on or powercfg/hibernateon it is powercfg /hibernate on

This should re-enable hibernation

My system hp Pavilion dv2000 its updated lastnight after system audio not working please solve my Problem

try re-installing your system audio driver. can you specify what model your laptop is? I hav e a dv2000 series laptop also, but its model is dv2202ca. the model is located on the bottom of your laptop.

go to this site:
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=dv2000

then select the proper model, then choose either xp or vista, then look for "Driver- AUdio" and download them, then run the files to re-install your drivers!

Memory Upgrade

Increasing the amount of RAM will always help your laptop's performance. However, in this case, I would try going to HP's web site and updating the video drivers or try a different program to play DVD's. 958 should be more than enough RAM to run DVD's smoothly. You can find DVD software at filehippo.com for free.
As for RAM instalation:
I would only let Bestbuy install them if it's free. Installing memory chips is simple, they're located under a panel on the bottom of the machine. (Be sure to power down first) Do it yourself and use the money you save on the outrageous gas prices.
