Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The humming noise is caused due to the motor going bad and should be replaced. You can buy the parts from this link.
Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Dont know why you did not like my solution, may be I gave you a honest answer. Anyways you can check the motor couplings before replacing the motor. Still capacitor will not cause hum noise, hum only occurs when the motor is bad.

I have a majic chef CYE3004AYW dryer. When I turn it on nothing happens but the dial still moves like the timer is working.

Do you hear any noise like humming? Maybe the drum belt broke, might be a lower panel held on with two screws near the bottom, remove to look with a flashlight to see if belt is attached to motor. If in tact unplug the dryer and check heating element for burnt leads.

Unit does not want to turn on. Power to switch, makes a noise when you turn the knob, but machine does nothing?

Sounds like either the unit's control board or timer is not communicating correctly. If you at all hear a humming or buzzing noise, the control board may be having issues with the motor of the unit. You would need a professional in this case to move forward.

The 4004-20 timer began humming after a power outage. It will not stop, and I have pushed every button and turned the dial. How can I stop the humming?

Paragon 4004-20 is DPST mechanical timer with 240V clock motor
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#Paragon4000
http://www.intermatic.com/customer%20service/competitive%20cross%20reference.aspx

I'm guessing that clock motor is source of noise.
If timer is keeping good time and dial is not slowing at tripper points then timer is basically sound.
Turn power OFF and spray WD40 or put a bit of white grease on the gears.
The noise might also be the timer mechanism vibrating in the box... see if snapping out the mechanism and putting it back makes a difference ... you might have to push sides of box inward to hold mechanism tighter.

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

Fills with water then does nothing

WHEN YOU MOVE TIMER DOES THE MOTOR AND WATER MAKE NOISE. MOVE TIMER WITH DOOR OPEN TO A MID CYCLE. IF NOTHING THEN THE MOTOR OR TIMER. OR CONNECTIONS AS THE WATER SHUTS OFF WHEN THE LEVEL SENSOR OPENS.

the motor may have seized up, or the drum bearings are shot.

Dryer makes a buzzing noise when I push the start switch.

Sounds like a bad motor, The buzzing noise is probably the motor humming then nothing because the thermal over load switch inside the motor opened. Timer will still be energized. Good Luck

Dryer will not start

when you turn the select knob, you set up the internal cams of the timer. when you press to start or pull to start, you energize the timer motor (buzz) the timer opens the water solenoids. the diaphragm switch senses the water level and moves the timer to the next step. agitate starts for the timed cycle. when its finished the motor kicks in in opposite direction to drain and pump water out.
