Question about Waring MBB 521 / 520 Professional Work Top Blender

2 Answers

The coupling on my MBB5** blender is turning freely on the shaft (mostly). By this I mean that when I turn the motor on, the coupling doesn't turn. I've taken the base apart (as much as I can without removing the coupling, and when there is friction from the motor dangling a bit, the coupling will turn the shaft, until I put some pressure on the shaft whereas the coupling will continue to spin. I assume something is stripped or broken on the coupling, but can't get it off to tell. how do you remove the coupling - pry? turn the opposite direction? if so, how do I hold the shaft so that it will unscrew? Thanks for your help

I wish there was a hex shaped hole, but there is not. any other suggestions...

also, remember that the coupler is spinning free on the shaft...

This is a MBB5 model. There is no gap between the coupler and the plastic piece (with the 4 "arms" that you rest the class container on) to either hit something against, or to insert a wrench... sorry for sounding stupid, am I missing something?

WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?
After blending is complete, and the unit has been deactivated by pressing the OFF touch pad, there is still rotation of the motor and the coupler for approximately 5-10 seconds before the coupler comes to a complete stop. If the Blender jar is taken off while the coupler is still rotating, this will result in bending and weakening of the coupler teeth. Over time, these teeth will start to break off.

PREVENTION
Once blending is complete, we recommend letting the blender jar sit in the base approximately 5-10 seconds before lifting the jar off of the base. This slight pause will ensure that the coupler is no longer rotating, alleviating the possibility of bending and weakening of the coupler teeth.

Also, MBB does not recommend placing any additional pressure onto the top of the Blender. Added pressure down on the coupler will increase the bending and weakening of the coupler teeth.

Now to solve your present problem you will have to replace the coupling.
i am giving you 2 links for replacing instructions of coupler. they are not for your model but are similar.so it will help:--

Hi!!
The coupling comes off turning counter clockwise, to hold the shaft, there is usually an hex shaped hole on the bottom of the unit to insert an Allen type wrench to keep it form turning while unscrewing the coupling.
Good Luck!!

I found this method, is for another brand, but basically same procedure.
Since the coupling is threaded to the blender shaft motor counter clockwise, to remove it you have to unscrew it clockwise.

Unplug the blender and place it on a flat surface, place a flathead screwdriver or similar tool on a tooth or in your case, on the metal insert, insuring no to damage the treads of the shaft and hit using mild force it with a hammer. It may take a few tries but it will come loose. To replace it, just screw the new one until the shaft starts spinning, place the jar and turn blender on.

    Keep me posted!

The shaft holding the coupler on the KSB5 model is cut to be held with a "very thin" 7mm wrench. When I say thin, it needs to be about half the thickness of a regular wrench approx. 1/16".

Both methods work, use the one you feel more comfortable with.

Why doesn't blade spin?

Either the coupling from the motor with the fingers on it is not really attached to the motor shaft or the drive on the blade that engages with it is not attached to the blade shaft. One other thing is that on some models if the rubber jar seal between the beaker and the blade carrier is in the wrong place it can raise the blade drive to not engaging properly with the motor coupling. The gasket goes between the jar and the blade carrier, not under the blade carrier.

The drive stud on my vitamix 3600 blender sheared off. When screw is replaced it comes unscrewed when the blender is turned on. Does anyone know if the original design included epoxy weld?

If the motor runs in reverse to an Oster which uses counter clockwise thread then it follows that your thread should not be counter clockwise. If it comes loose when you turn it on surely the thread on the coupling must be faulty because according to your description the action of turning it on can only be to tighten the coupling. Most couplings with a thread that I have seen are counter clockwise so you will probably struggle to find another brand coupling to match.

How to separate coupler

Assemble it with motor secure and base & feet on. Drill 3 or 4mm hole in edge of coupling Put screwdriver into hole on a large angle and whack the handle to undo the coupling. You are whacking it to turn in the same direction it turns when the motor is running.

Blades on ninja blender won't spin, but motor seems to be working.

I don't have one, but inspect the shaft, it looks like there is a key on the shaft, then inspect the inside of the blade where it goes on top of the shaft, see if it looks like the shaft has spun out the blade and this is why it's not spinning.

Remove the blade and the container, then turn on and see if the shaft is spinning, it should be most are a direct drive.

So now if the shaft is spinning, that most likely means that the blade hole is broke where it sets on top of the shaft.

Look closely at the inside of the blade, you should see some type of damage like the groves are worn, I hate to see you buy one and it was the shaft that wore, but usually the blade will go first.

Ksb50b3 doesn't turn on hums

Does the blade turn by hand? Does the motor turn by hand? The answers to both those questions may point you in the right direction. If both turn freely I would suspect you need a new motor.

Blade not turning

the top rubber piece could be worn enough that it is not engaging the pitcher. look at it carefully and see if the "teeth" of the rubber disc on top of the base has not cracked and worn away. a picture of the new one can be seen on the parts websites to compare I spent $10.00 for my replacement but i found them at other sites for $6.00. you will need a very skinny 7mm open ended wrench to get the old one off and it is left handed threads that means clockwise will loosen not tighten the part.i ground down my wrench but an ignition wrench from an auto store will usually be thin enough to reach the flats on the shaft under the rubber disc
