Question about Kenmore 74602 Gas Dryer

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore Elite 110.73932102, runs but will not heat at all. I have gone through the troubleshooting and still can't figure out the problem. When I turn on the dryer the igniter does not glow. I checked the coils, the ohms were good. I checked the heat sensor continuity that was good. Checked the high limit and thermal fuse, both were good. I tested the high limit thermostat and that was good too. I?ve even checked the temp switch and it was fine. What am I missing?

Did you check the igniter? You never mentioned anything about checking, or replacing the igniter. The most common cause of a no heat problem on a GAS dryer is worn or blown igniter. These appliances are equipped with a burner assembly with electronic igniters. The following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

I know the link is for a gas range, but the burner assembly functions are nearly identical, as well as, the type igniters used.

If you are having ignition problems it is probably a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter. The burner assembly will ignite automatically as long as the gas valve, igniter coils and igniter are all functioning properly. It can take up to 90 seconds for the burner to ignite. As the igniter ages, you may experience longer ignition times.

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:
searspartsdirect.com pcappliancerepair.com appliancepartspros.com repairclinic.com All these sites have competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this information is helpful to you.

The igniter can grow weak with age and stop working. It does not have to indicate an open to be considered bad. If the ingiter is not capable of drawing the required current to open the safety valve, the burner will not ignite. If you've never replaced the igniter before, its a good chance the igniter may still be bad.

No a kenmore 80 series dryer will not heat . if the heating elment is good & fuse is good what else could be the problem

The heating circuit is basically composed of the heating element, thermal cut-off, high-limit thermostat, cycling thermostat, and the motor centrifugal switch. The problem is very likely in the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat located on the blower housing. The thermal cut-off blows when the high-limit thermostat fails and cuts power to the heating element. Both the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat need to be replaced if the former is blown open. Click on the link below for the detailed instructions in troubleshooting this kind of problem.

Dryer runs but doesn't heat up when sttings call for heat.

You may need to do some troubleshooting. This can be done with the machine unplugged - you may have to activate the start switch, belt switch (if it has one) and the motor centrifugal switch manually.
Tip for troubleshooting 220v systems - clip one lead of a ohm meter to either L1 or L2 on the terminal block. It doesn't matter which one. According to the tech sheet (under console) follow the path for current from your clipped terminal, through the heating element, to the opposite terminal. All the readings should be less than 100 ohms, until you reach the failed part. Confirm failure by disconnecting a lead from the suspected part, and test only that part.

Live troubleshooting is sometimes slightly easier, but much more dangerous than the procedure described above. - It is definitely not recommended for beginners, or for professionals, if it can be avoided.
