Replace the whole speed control, you can find them at most Home Depots. Very simple repair, just make sure you note which wire goes where, and how many wires there are. Not all controlers are the same. If you don't feel comfortable removing old one, Note the make of the fan, and the sales person should be able to assist you.

There should be a twist off cap where the chain comes out of the housing. It looks like a nipple, and should just screw off, make sure you hold the mechanism from the inside. It might twist.

HOW DO I FIX A LIGHTING CHAIN THAT BROKE INSIDE THE HOUSING OF THE FAN?

You have to buy a new pull chain, usually two wire. Take light off fan and put new pull chain on as you take the old one off.

Model: 21647 chain is stuck for light

When you say stuck I assume you mean it is stuck in the fan. You have to carefully unwind the fan to release the chain pulling slightly as you unwind.
If the switch itself is broken they are an easy fix from any home repair or electric supply house

How do you open a wu pin switch. the chain broke & went inside switch

My chain was broken about 1.5 - 2 centimeters inside the wu pin. I took a chain connector (with some chain hanging off one end) and fed it into the hole, trying to connect it to the broken chain. After a couple of tries I managed to get the end of the broken chain inside the wu pin to connect to the chain connector by gently pulling down once it was somewhat inside the chain connector. I hope this works for you. I was so glad I didn't have to resort to cutting any wire or making a trip to a home improvement store!

I need to replace the pull chain that controls the blade speed for my Hampton Bay ceiling fan. I do not know the model number, but it is a 52" five-blade fan.

If the chain is broken off at the switch, you will need to replace the entire switch. It is not difficult to do and you can purchase a new switch from either Lowe's or Home Depot. You''ll find the switch in the ceiling fan department.

All you need to do, to remove the switch is remove the bottom cover of the fan housing, where the switch is located (if you have a light kit, you will need to remove it). This will give you access to the wiring and the switch. The switch is held in place by a threaded retainer ring on the outside of the fan housing. Unscrew it and push the switch back into the housing, Disconnect the wire nuts and totally remove the switch. Take it with you, when you go to purchase a new one.

If the chain is still visible by at least 1" all you need to do is purchase a new chain (usually comes with connector) and connect the two together.

As always, be sure the electricity is turned off to the fan, before attempting any repairs.

Hope this helps solve your problem.

When the fan speed chain adjust breaks off inside the fan housing what can be done to fix it? RG

The solution is not expensive, but it is time consuming, provided you are handy. About the only solution is a new switch. HOWEVER, if you are able to pull any of the chain out, say with needle nose pliers, you may be able to get the end connector from a replacement chain to connect to the broken chain and perhaps work.

Low and medium fan speed no longer works on our Hampton Bay fan when you pull the chain. The high speed works. Can this be fixed with a repair part?

the speed is controlled by a capacitor bank ... high speed uses no capacitors, low speed uses a small capacitor in series with the motor and medium speed uses a larger capacitor ... the pull chain switch selects which capacitor is used ... so if the capacitors go bad or if the switch fails to select them then you will not have low and medium speed ... so you could have a bad speed capacitor block or a bad switch or wiring that has come loose inside the fan (that connects the capacitors) .. all are replaceable .. i would first remove the covers from the fan and check all wire connections .. check the switch to see if it operates smoothly .. then suspect the capacitor block .. if you were an electrician then you could bypass the switch to test its function but if you are not then make sure power is off while working on the fan .. you should be able to get a new capacitor block from the manufacturer .. most are similar if they will phisically fit in the fan housing and have the same connectors ..

Fan chain broke and i want to put it back together

If the chain broke from inside the fan you will need a new switch $6 at any home improvement store and if its just the chain links you can buy a another replacement one. Make sure you tell them which switch is broken, fan or light so you get the right one and how many speeds if its the fan

Ceiling Fan Chain Broken Off

You have to kill all power to the fan and start taking it apart till you get to the switch. There's usually just a bottom plate to remove. Sometimes lights. Replace switch and reassemble. If some chain is still connected to the switch you can add chain to it and won't have to replace switch.

Fan won't turn on, dont know where switch is

I looked up the owners manual for your fan at the following site: http://www.hunterfan.com/search.aspx?search=20763
Click on the pdf file labeled owner's.This manual indicates there should be a pull chain for turning on and off the fan. Maybe the chain has broken off up inside the fan. You can follow the instructions in this manual to take the fan apart and replace the pull chain.
