Yes, the two are related, the timer controls the power to the element. There are also high limits, which shuts down the power to the element if the timer fails to time out.

Noma outdoor timer 1875

Timer is not identified.
Noma is generic brand name used by different sellers to denote that product is a timer.
Noma is generally associated with Woods timers.
1875 is usually the watt rating for heavier duty timers, like 2 button block heater timers, etc.

1) Add a comment and describe timer in detail, and include photo of timer posted on Flickr for possible identification.

2) Open following link to find same-similar timer

Hi ive just installed my new hotpoint WDF740 , im pleased with it but when its heating up it makes a ticking noise . any idears wot it could be ?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

That could just be the heating element and associated hardware expanding- providing it's not coming from the timer!

If this has assisted and/or clarified the situation for you please consider a 4 thumbs up on our rating.
Thanks and good luck!

How to program noma timer item no.8814

The timer is not clearly identified.

Noma is old Intermatic brand name now used for identifying products as timers.
Many companies sell NOMA timers.
The same timer can be sold by different companies under different names and numbers.
Woods timers frequently have NOMA associated with them.
Some of the older Grasslin-GE timers are now sold as NOMA, with different numbers.

Solution:
1) Some of the pay-for-manual sites show your timer number in google search parameter, and you can search those sites. Be careful of extra toolbars-and-such with the download.

2) Add a comment to this thread and include link to in-focus photo of timer that you post on Flicker for possible identification and help.

3) Open following link to find same-similar timer and download manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html

Upvote the help.
And take advantage of fixya expert assistance live.
For a price, expert works with you while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

HEating element just went out

sounds more like either you lost one leg(120)volts to the dryer or the neutral lead could also be open, this would be associated with both your problems,I doubt the element is bad unless you have checked it visually and done a continuity check on it,because the timer doesn't operate either you could have one live leg(120)volts,but with open neutral it wont operate the 120volt timer

My dryer will not heat and timer works until the cooling stage

It's either the timer or insufficient air flow. check your vents to see if sufficient air is coming out.

You need to replace or repair the timer control, this is not a faulty motor control unit.

Sounds like your humidity switch is "on", which is what warms the center post. Turn it off and see if the heat problem goes away, and if you get a buildup of moisture on the center post. If so, turn it back on.

In the end I bought another timer on sale/return. My heating didn't work with that one either, so my problem's not the timer but something else.
