Question about XFX NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Graphic Card

Open Question

Dell dimension 4600 with GeForce FX 5200. Recently screen freezes up, goes black then comes back on..or sometimes does not come back on and seems to go into power save mode. Can hear computer still on and working, just nothing on the screen.Tried to plug monitor (Samsung 920nw) into on board video plug, doesn't work, tried to enable as second monitor, doesn't work. No viruses, Samsung replaced LCD board (blamed them first). Is it the video card? If I remove that card will the on board video plug work? Tried changing the setting on comp and in windows to use on board plug, didn't work.

have you tried lowering your Computer Video card resolution ?

have you tried the updated drivers here:
    GeForce FX 5200http://www.nvidia.com/page/fx_5200.html
( copy and paste the link on your browser ) , what version of Direct X

you are using? If on board and the GEForce 5200 does not work , check your power supply,

Very broad problem. You can re-seat card, or use a different slot if possible. You can test card on another PC. You can wipe PC and do a clean install. This may be the surest way to determine if the the card is bad or driver conflict with OS.

You could try to insert your XP disk and boot from it. It might have a recovery option. If so, select it, and you should be able to repair Windows and keep your data. If not, I'm afraid all you can do is reinstall it. I'm sorry, Yannick.

Freeze Up

Have you tried running in safe mode to see if problem persists?

White pixels on screen is not a good sign :(
Have you cleaned the card from dust as it could be a overheating problem?

Do you have a spare card you could try just to be sure it is the card?

Installing GeForce 5200 on Dell Dimension 2400

I suggest that better check that graphic card in another machine and make sure it is working.

Also find out the data transfer speed of your mother board through the AGP slot is compatible with your graphic card. (e.g. 4X, 8X, etc.)

If you are sure that your system really has an 8X AGP port (A choclate colored slot) then you could deffinitely install the card and work with it.

With the information I received the Dell Dimension 2400 deos not features an AGP 8X port, in that case it is not possible to install the card.

Then you should buy a new motherboard with AGP 8X Port to be able to install the Ge force FX 5200.

as your primary pc now has a working graphics card . I would guess your graphics card is fried in all honesty there is really no hope in repairing it especially for the cost of one of those cards, if you are simply using your second pc for non graphic intensive apps then I am sure you could find an ol pci grpahics card down the local dump for next to nothing hope this helps.
