How to Flash a System Bios using a diskette or a CD

Not all PC models have the option of flashing the bios under the windows Graphical User Interface (GUI) environment. There are some that their manufacturers only give diskette option which will involve using the DOS (Disk Operating System) environment. Recently, the CD drive is also given as an alternative since most PCs now do not have diskette drives. Well in both cases, it will involve creating a bootable diskette or CD. Here's how to go about it:

First, you would have to visit the manufacturer's website and carefully check and download the latest driver files for your system model. Also, you would have to save the instructions for reference when necessary. If you are downloading for a diskette, you would have to download the driver files for diskette (they are smaller than that of the CD). Now, the next thing is to create a bootable diskette so you can copy the downloaded files to the diskette. The easiest way of creating an MS-DOS bootable diskette is by visiting www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm, download an image (you can select 'Windows ME, Custom, No Ramdrive'), and follow the instructions to create your own bootable diskette. If the bios files you downloaded are zipped, you would have to unzip first so you can have access to the actual files and copy them to the bootable diskette. If you are downloading for CD, then you would have to select the one for CD if available. Normally, with the CD, an application is added to automatically burn the bootable CD. You would have to be sure your CD drive is a burner or writer. Take note of your drive letter (whether E:, F:, A: etc). Now you are ready to lunch.

If you are using a laptop, be sure to have your battery and adapter connected and if it is a desktop, then be sure to have a backup power like a UPS. Restart your PC and be sure to set your PC to boot from Floppy or CD depending on which one you are using. Now the PC will boot into a DOS environment. If the main application does not lunch automatically, you would have to lunch it yourself. In this case, you will see a drive letter and a blinking cursor. If the letter showing is not that of your drive, then you would have to enter your drive. This is an example of what to type if say we want to enter drive 'E';
c:\>e: (then hit the enter key)
e:\>
In this case, we were in drive C: and we moved from C: to E: by typing 'e:'. From the instructions, you will know the main file to lunch. This is an example of lunching a file with the name 'bios.exe' in drive 'A';
a:\>bios.exe (then hit the enter key)
In this case, we were using drive 'A'(normally the case with diskette). If it were to be drive 'E', it would have been;
e:\>bios.exe (then hit the enter key)
When this is done, you follow the instructions step by step to successfully complete the procedure. When done, you can check your bios settings if necessary.

Hope this was helpful and all the best.

Unable to boot and hard disk prob

Dear Amit Sinha

First verify that no floppy diskette or CD is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette.
If not then it seems that your windows boot file got corrupted. all you have to do is try using your notebooks recovery CD if you dont have a recovery CD then you have to use the windows installer CD
1 Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
2 When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
3 Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
4 Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
5 You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
6 Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer.
copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

7 Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

Else you have to format your computer and reinstall windows again
Thanks

Im trying to copy text from ms word and burn it to dvd with no luck i have downloaded various softwarw programmes but still no good .please help

Once you copy (text, picture etc) from any file, You need to paste it somewhere before you can burn it. Once you copy something, computer holds it on something called a clipboard till you paste it to another document. This new document can be a notepad or another word file. So, once the copy is done, open note pad or an MS office new file and paste it on to that. Save this new file with any name (abc.txt or abc.doc for example). Now you can burn it to a CD or DVD. To burn, open the CD burning software. Start new data project, drag abc.doc or abc.txt file to the window at the bottom. click burn.

Hello,pls I am having problem with my laptop IBM R30. Whenever I turn it on,It displays NTLDR file missing.MY mail is abincojay@yahoo.com

Windows 2000 users If your computer is using Microsoft Windows 2000 and you are encountering the NTLDR error. Create the below boot.ini file on the floppy diskette drive. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect Copy the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files from another computer using the same operating system. Both of these files are located in the root directory of the primary hard disk drive. For example, C:\NTLDR and C:\NTDETECT.COM should be the locations of these files on many computers. Please keep in mind that these files are hidden system files, if you need additional help with viewing hidden files in Windows please see document CH000516. Once these files have been copied to a floppy diskette reboot the computer and copy the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files to the root directory of the primary hard disk drive. Below is an example of what commonly should be performed from the A:\> drive. copy ntldr c: copy ntdetect.com c: After the above two files have been copied, remove the floppy diskette and reboot the computer. Windows XP users Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer. copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\ Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

How to create a bootable xp service pack 2 cd

To create bootable disk follow the steps: 1)Enter floppy disk or cd in your dvd/cd drive. 2)You can create boot disk by using Nero CD Burning software or other software with which you burn your cd or dvd. 3) to create with windows xp go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=FBE5E4FC-695F-43E5-AF05-719F45C382A4 Or carry out the following steps: Using Windows XP, place a blank floppy in drive A and format the disk. Navigate to the root folder of the system (in most cases this will be C:\) and copy the following files to the floppy disk. Boot.ini NTLDR Ntdetect.com If you can't see the files, click [Tools] and [Folder Options...] in the Menu Bar of Windows Explorer. Click the [View] tab and click the radio button next to [Show Hidden Files and Folders]. Remove the check mark next to [Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)] then click [Apply] and [OK]. The files should now be visible in Windows Explorer. If the files still cannot be copied, right click each file, click [Properties] and remove the checkmark from the Read-Only attributes. Reset whatever attributes were unchecked after the copy procedure is completed. In addition to the files listed above, check the same directory for bootsect.dos and ntbootdd.sys files. If they are present on your system, copy them to the same floppy diskette. The disk is used as any other boot disk, inserting it into the floppy drive (A:\) and initiating a cold boot. Make sure the BIOS is set so that the A:\ drive is first in the boot sequence.
