Vcr keeps saying safe

Try this: (actually found in user manual...)

Pro-Tect Plus™ (Child Lock) Feature

This feature is useful to tamper proof your timer recordings from unwanted changes

and/or protect the VCR from mis-operation by other users in the household.

To Lock the VCR

Press and hold POWER or VCR on the remote for

approximately six seconds to turn on the Pro-Tect Plusª

feature.

SAFE appears in the VCR front panel to let you know the

feature is activated.

To Unlock the VCR

Press and hold VCR button on the remote for approximately

six seconds to unlock the VCR.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

The clock uses very little power so a weak supply might still be able to provide stable voltage to it.
All the other functions require enough power to drag down a supply that is on its last legs and I think that is where the problem lays.

If the display brightness seems normal, then either a different section is being used for the missing functions or a weak capacitor in the power supply can no longer filter the DC voltage well enough to provide stable voltage to motors, the main board, etc.

To determine what is at fault will require some technical skills and a couple of instruments normally not found at home.

About the only thing you might try on your own is to open the case, look for a customarily separate board that appears related to the AC input cord which should be unplugged at this time.
You will see cylindrical parts ranging in diameter from 1/4" to about 1 1/4" and various heights.
The tops are normally visible and the cases are of aluminum. Look for any that seem to have bulging tops or a crusty deposit around their base.
Those things are visible indicators of failure.

If you find such parts and have an appropriate soldering iron (not a higher power 'gun') you might remove these and buy replacements.
That could be a problem since most electronics supply places won't even talk to you.
If you want to try on line, look at www.mouser.com , one of the few who will sell single quantities of parts.
The values will look something like this:

100uF/16V

These parts are polarized so if you don't see a '+' or '-' on the board, be sure to mark it before removing so any new part does not fail immediately after replacing.

I have a rcavr355vhs vcr how do i hook it up to my reg tv

Should only have to connect a short coax cable from the TV out connector on the back of your VCR to the cable in connector on your tv. The VCR should send video to the TV on either Channel 3 or 4.

RCA VR355 recording problem

Are you sure the reciever is coming through the vcr.? are you hooking it up through a/v on vcr?
if so hook from a/v out from directv to a/v in
jacks on back of vcr. and turn vcr on a/v channel
to record it. you will see the picture as you record it. if the vcr isn't on a/v channel it won't record it
If you use ch 4 or 3 to record it you
hook up directv to cable in on vcr and you
have to turn vcr on that channel and see it coming
through it you have to push a button on satlette
remote to make it come on the vcr on the channel
or it will record snow. and you have to push
another button on vcr remote if you haven't
already to get the vcr on ch 4 or 3 on your tv
or if u got it through a/v turn tv to a/v channnel.

just beacuse you see the picture coming through
your tv doesn't mean it going through your vcr
you could be just seeing it through the tv only.
you will see the vcrs graphics or vcr channel number on your
tv too along with the directv channel if it's hooked
up right. notice the vcr won't record it's own
graphics or channel number on the screen but it will record the directv's graphics. and it won't record the tv's own grapic channel number either.
to make sure it's right you will see 3 graphics on
your tv the own tv's channel number or a/v
the directvs and the vcr's channel number or a/v
on your tv if you see these you know it's hook up
right.

Vcr will not work

Try pressing down the vcr or Aux button for a long time. Then try pressing down power button on remote for a long time. Try info or display button for long time. After I fiddled around with these for a long time it worked.
