Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a kenmore 80 series that is at least 10 years old & is leaking. i think it is leaking between the motor & what looks like a pump (two black hose connect to this part). i don't see a model number anywhere on the machine. is there another location i can look for model number? if so, how do i find the part(s)? is this something i can replace myself or do i need a repairman?

The part you are referring to is the drain pump. The pump on these top loaders are mechanical (no electrical connections) and have only one moving part (the impeller). If the pump begins to leak, it must be replaced as they are not serviceable. Commonly, the external case develops small cracks and will begin to leak. The following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

A replacement pump can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable, offer great service and have competitive pricing. The first three sites I have listed also include exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need.

The model number is usually printed on a nameplate along the wash tub rim under the washer lid. The number should have a prefix of "110", which identifies the manufacturer as Whirlpool. If the number cannot be read, it is often stamped somewhere on the back panel of the washer, or on the back of the operator console.

If you have any further questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: If you cannot locate a model number, the part numbers are often printed on the component. You can remove the pump from the washer and see if the number is stamped on the casing somewhere. You can also take the damaged part to any appliance parts retailer to see if they can match the part for you. The drain pump is common item that some retailers will carry as part of their in-store inventory.

Check to see if the water pump is leaking at the bearing. Check the hoses that connect to the water pump to see if there are any cracks or splits.

My Kenmore Quiet Guard dishwasher is 3 years old. Leaks when it is in the cycle just before dry. I think it is the draining cycle

check the spray arm to see that it is not cracked on a seam. take off the bottom panel. there should be four screws. use a flashlight and observe where the unit is leaking from. if it looks like it is coming down the shaft of the motor then you will most likely need a motor seal. some units you have to buy the motor/pump assembly. that can be expensive.

My Kenmore 80 series topload machine is leaking water

This machine has a direct drive pump, in all likelyhood the pump is leaking...unplug machine...pull it out...tip machine on its back so you can access the bottom, if it is the pump there should be water around where the pump connects to the motor, if it is the pump it is a simple process of releasing 2 clips and taking the inlet and outlet pipes off the pump..install new pump the way you took old one off. you can obtain the part from www.repairclinic.com If you would like to give me more details on your dryer i may be able to work out what is wrong with it.

Kenmore 80 series Gas Dryer

HI. you are correct. this dryer, although gas, is using a Glow igniter system. most older models used the snap igniter that clicks over and over to spark the burner but, this dryer is only 2 years old so, it should be outfitted with a glow igniter system. This igniter is powered by electricity.

It works in conjunction with a Flame sensor.

KENMORE SERIES 80 WASHER

There is three things on this machine that concern me. Last week I rebuilt a series 80 and it did the same thing, mostly on perm press. It turned out the timer was fine and the mechanical had not been rebuilt in years. Because of this the motor could not spin fast enough to fling the water plus the pump was leaking. I need three things from you. Is leaking water and oil when looking under the machine, does the motor hum loud even when functioning normally and when its spinning lift the lid, is it still rotating after a quick count to 7? Drop me a line I would like to help.
