I have a whirlpool bootom freezer. The refrigerator portion keep getting warm while maintaining the temp level in the freezer remains constant.

John
It looks like you are getting frost/ice build up in the air vents( freezer is what cools your refrigerator side. If the ice blocks the flow up no air can travel to the other side). You removed the blockage by defrosting it but it will probably come back if the door does not seal properly. The only moisture you can introduce to the freezer is from outside...

Hope that helps

Cheers

Frost in the freezer, and ice build up on back under a metal cover

Defrost issue, bad heater or bi-metal our timer, maybe board

Freezer is forming frost around the light fixture located in the ceiling of the freezer compartment. We must manually remove the frost approximately two times per week.

If you are certain that the evaporator fan is running then your automatic defrost function has stopped working.
There are 3 things that cause it to stop working:
1. The defrost control
Item 801 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5206998&diagram_id=26604625#d26604625
2 The defrost heater
Item 826 above link
3. The thermo disc Item 621 above link.
4. The bi-metal thermostat (closed below 60 deg F)
Item 4 can be tested for continuity at temps below 60 deg F.
Item 2 and 3 can be tested at room temp for continuity.

Item 1 the main board controls the defrost cycle which turns the defrost heater on and off.

Primary suspects would be the defrost heater and thermo disc.
Shop areound for the heater if you find that is bad... the link I posted that heater seems VERY expensive to me. The heater PN: WR50X10042 I note prices in the range of $115.00 - $171.00

This PN defrost heater has a history of repeated failure.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Back wall of freezer frosts over

Under that panel is the evaporation compartment Every 6 hours or so the evap needs to be defrosted to prevent ice from building up and blocking the flow of air to the fresh food compartment and basically bringing to a halt any kind of cold air going into the fresh food section. The ice does not form immediately bit takes weeks to get a buildup. The most likely problem is gonna be a bad defrost heater or defrost terminator thermostat. The defrost lasts for 21 mins. The heater needs to be turned off when the temp reaches 50f. The termination thermostat does that job. One of them 2 is bad. OR the defrost timer has died on older models and the auto defrost control has not kicked in due to bad control board or faulty defrost sensor. This was generalization of how it works. Post a model number for a specific answer.

Heavy Frost in the freezer

There are a few reasons for frost building up inside the freezer compartment. Refrigerators work like dehumidifiers collecting the moisture in the air inside and defrost is supposed to remove the moisture while defrost through a drain and then to the defrost condensate pan below the refrigerator. Ever notice how ice in freezer over time the ice cubes become smaller? Or food that is not sealed dries out. You either have one of three problems. Defrost drain blocked behind the rear wall in back of freezer, air leaking into freezer through the door seal and in your case the drawer seal and finally water possibly leaking into freezer from Ice Maker, Let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer frosting up

I need more information. If this is a frost free freezer with an internal fan I need to know what the freezer temp is. If a manuel defrost it is supposed to frost up. You defrost it 2 - 3 times a year when the frost builds up over 3/4 inch. If it frosts up faster than this check to see if the door is sealing all the way around. There should be no gaps or cracks in the gasket.

Freeaer and refrigerator warm

Check and clean the condenser coil in the back behind a removable panel. after cleaning make sure you replace the panel. Check the back inside wall of the freezer compartment for frost build-up. If there is frost on the back wall you have a defrost system problem.

Frost in freezer compartment

It is possible to get this build up in the return vents.  Check seals for any possiblilty of warm air getting into the fridge.  Warm air getting in will cause this.  For now use a hair dryer or some hot water to clear the vents.  Let me know what you find.  Would appreciate a solved rating for expert advice.
