Question about LG 50PG20 50 in. Plasma HDTV
You could try to unplug the TV for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then turn it on. If the same problem would still be there, it would confirm an internal fault. If the TV is under warranty, you could get it replaced or repaired unless you need to get it repaired. Obviously, you could call a tech on site to diagnose and fix the problem. If you have experience in electronics, could read schematics, would be able to use multimeter and could keep precautions, revert and i would be able to guide you.I would be able to send you a link where you could purchase a cost effective service manual that is needed to get this fixed.
Let me know,so that we could proceed.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Did the T.V had a habit of turning itself off earlier on?

All you need to do is to open the back cover of the television to check for faulty componenents, but you should at least have a basic electronics knowledge to start with .
Your power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
Hope this help in solvung the problem . Take care....

Sounds like a failed or at least failing power supply / power board
inside the TV.
Unfortunately this is a very difficult repair, and unless you are an
electrician I would not recommend attempting it. You will need to
contact a local TV repair person in your area. This is actually the
most common problem with this type of TV, I see it every day, it just
happens - sometimes with new TVs and sometimes it takes many years for
it to happen.
If you think it may still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.
If you want to attempt the repair yourself please let me know and I will get you the part number and a place you can purchase it from for what you need.
So sorry that I don't have better news but it is definitely a power issue internally.

If the TV keeps shutting down and goes in standby, then the TV is going on protect mode after detecting a malfuncion.
When this happensthe TV gets shut down to prevent further damage to internal components.
Before calling support ensure that you have followed the indications here Why my TV does not start up and remains in standby.
Troubleshooting basically consists in leaving the TV unplugged to drain power completely and discharge internal circuits. Instructions are for a DLP, but procedure is the same with any TV, even plasma TV.
The best way to contact an authorized technician is by ringing the number listed on the owners manual. Alternatively try Fixya directory here:Fixya directory- Consumer Products Repair
Try first the troubleshooting proposed in link above. If that does not work, ring customer service.
Regarding the rpair cost, this depends on the part that is defective. A common fault is the power supply, but this is not necessarily the problem.
If you are a repairer, testing willl start from PSU, following voltages on main board and testic diagnostic points listed on service manual. Here the service manual: philips slc4.3e - Service Manual
For parts try Partstore or ShopJimmy .
