Hello. When the pad no longer works, the problem is usually the battery. look carefully at the pad and you will see a screw holding down the battery compartment lid. Unscrew that screw, raise that lid, remove the battery, take it to radio shack and get a new one exactly like the old one. Joe

The correct keypad for your opener is 139.53684. The 53876 keypad is an older technology and will not work correctly. If you program it you will find your remotes no longer work and if you reprogram your remotes the keypad will not work.

Can a craftsman 953876 keyless entry pad garage door opener work on a liftmaster garage door opener

If both units were manufactured before April 2005 or both were manufactured after that date they should work. If one is older and the other newer than that date they will not work with each other.

The garage key pad has stopped working

The most common problem for your situation is that the battery in your wallmounted key pad needs to be replaced. unscrew the little screw on the face of the device, remove the battery and replace it with one just like it. Radio shack usually has these batteries

It is really important that you get the correct keypad for your opener. If you got the wrong one you will have the problem you describe. There is a possibility the remote is bad but the odds are against the keypad at this point.
