Fireman5, might find video clip of lcd monitor disassembly at YOUTUBE. Be very careful and protect the glass lcd screen at all costs. Do NOT use any sharp cutting instruments to to the "PARTING" of the bezel/rear cover. One slip and you will need EMT's to rush you to ER for treatment of gushing wounds. 12fixlouie

1994 Volvo 940T Speedometer Works Intermittently

If the speedometer and odometer are not working the problem is usually lack of signal from the transmission speed sensor.
But if the cruise control works and the speedometer does not, my guess would be a problem inside the cluster.

Dim display problem

Hi there,

Have you tried adjusting the LCD's bright and contrast using the buttons on the monitor. Instructions can be found on page 12 of this manual:

https://computinghardware.web.cern.ch/ComputingHardware/doc/Samsung/SyncMaster740B/SyncMaster740B-940T-E.pdf

If the lcd monitor is dim even upon booting up, then the backlights of the lcd itself is starting to fail and it needs to be replaced.

Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you for using FixYa. Merry Christmas!

My syncmaster 2233sw monitor has been going black while im doing something and will show it switching between analog and digital what should i do?

You may want to inspect the DC filter caps in the power supply first.<br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'">If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:</span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'">Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: <a href="http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums">http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums</a></span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'">Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.</span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague</a><span style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </span></span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'">Capacitors kit: <span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span><a href="http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/">http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/</a><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>he can make you a set of caps for you.</span><br />

Monitor keeps going off and on. All cords seem

ALL LCD monitors have a thermal protection circuit that turns the monitor off when it is overheated. LCD monitors do not have air circulating fans, so dust buildup is a problem. If your monitor is still under warranty, Please contact your retailer or Samsung at samsung.com/support. If it is out of warranty, you can try to repair it youtself. The steps to follow are:
1. Fold a large bath towel in half and put it on a table.
2. Disconnect the monitor from everything.
3. Remove all cables from the monitor
4. Place the monitor face down on the towel.
5. Remove the four VESA mounting screws that hold the desk mount to the rear of the monitor.
6. Remove ALL of the Phillips head screws from the rear of the monitor.
7. Use a thin bladed tool to release all of the plastic catches that secure the rear cover to the front cover of the monitor.
8. Use a small brush and a hose type vacuum cleaner to remove all of the accumulated dust from the chassis.
9. Put everything back together by reversing steps 7-2.
power it up and see if this corrects the problem.
10. Do not block any ventilation holes in the case.

Power light comes on but no picture

Try to check if the monitor displays anything - it would be very dark so experiment with angles/lighting. If you see picture it means that backlight is broken. Broken backlight can be caused by:
  1. Burnt "bulbs" (cathodes or LEDs) - If this is an LED backlit display then this scenario is highly unlikely.
  2. Broken inverter (most likely)
In both cases you need to have it repaired by a technician. If this is a relatively new display this will be cheaper than buying a new one.

The backlight is problem is caused by either a faulty inverter board or a faulty CCFL lamp.
