Question about Vtech Lands Phones

Phone i6789 has been making a clicking sound when dialing (like a pulse phone). Now each handset screen says "Line in use - all phones are off? Last night the screen said "no line"; this morning back to "Line in use". Dialing a no. and the dial tone gets very scratchy and nothing rings. all 4 phones do the same thing. No incoming or outgoing phone calls possible.

First of all make sure you're set to use Tone dialing, here's how to check:

When in the SETTINGS menu, press the down NavKey to choose DIAL TYPE. Press the center NavKey.
Press the up or down NavKey or to choose TONE or PULSE, then press the center NavKey.

Next thing to consider is DSL, do you have DSL and are all your filters in place? If you do have DSL and everything was working maybe on of your filters have failed. Disconnect your DSL modem then remove the filter from the Vtech phone, if all is well then get a new filter.

Another thing to do is the remove the batteries from all handsets for a few minutes and disconnect the power on the base. Put the batteries back in first then connect the power. Wait about a minute for everything to synchronize then try again.

If all else fails then there may be a fault in your base station or one of your handsets. If your unit is still under warranty (1 year) then contact VTech for replacement at 1-800-595-9511.

Otherwise you can get a new i6789 on Amazon for $109.95.

    You should also make sure that the line is ok by plugging another telephone into it. If it doesn't work contact your telephone company.

Check the user guide on page # 35 for more troubleshooting instructions.
If the phone is less then a year old, still under manufacturers warranty. To contact them for warranty purposes, check the product warranty section of the user guide. The toll free phone number is there as well.

I purchased an extra handset to a AT&T uniden E2125 system. The phone instructs me to place new handset on main base to register handset. It has registered and now it reads, handset #5. When I try...


I've pulled up the user manual for your phone. Thank you for providing the phone make and model first, and the complete description of your issue!

The manual says the battery should be charged for 15 hours before first use.

You may be set to pulse dialing , even though the factory default is for tone dialing. If you push the 7 key, you would hear 7 pulses or clicks in succession. The dial tone will be gone once a pulse has been received. And you say there are clicks heard and no dial tone.

You can set Handset settings (Page 12 in the PDF copy) and customize how your phone works.

Hit MENU and use the up-arrow and down-arrow keys to scroll to the desired feature., this time called DIAL TYPE, then his SELECT. Looks like the sixth menu entry from the top after LANGUAGE.

It should read:
DIAL TYPE
TONE

If it says something else, perhaps PULSE, use those arrow keys again to change the Dial Type to Tone. Then use OFF to back out of the selection and again to clear the menu.

Won't dial out


might you have your phone set for tone on a pulse line???

Do you know what kind of line you have?

You can use pulse and/or tone on a tone line. But you cannot use tone on a pulse line.

A pulse line is cheaper ... I have a pulse line from the mid 70's and I refuse to upgrade it (costs more) to tone - whats the point - I never get any calls and im not in that big a hurry to dial for the extra couple bucks they want.

Need to change phone back to tone dialing


Here's what the manual says: Changing the Dial Mode (Tone or Pulse Dialing) (HS1 only) Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, follow the steps below to modify your phone?s settings: With the phone in standby, press and hold [cid/menu]. Press [vol/ / ] to move the pointer to select DIAL. Press [select/channel] to set the phone to pulse dialing. Press [end]. Return the handset to the base. The handset communicates the new setting to the base, and the base activates the setting on any other handsets. Hope this helps out. K

Swicth from tone to pulse


1) When the phone is in standby mode, press and hold the caller id/menu key.
2) Press the vol/ / key three times to select Dial.
3) Press the select key to toggle between Tone and Pulse.
4) Press the end key or return the handset to the base unit to complete the setting. The handset returns to standby mode.

This phone also has a feature that allows you to use Pulse dialing to make calls, but allows you to switch to tone dialing for automated systems (like “Please Press 1 for English) here are the steps for that:

Initially make your call with the pulse dialing mode. Once your call connects, press
the */tone key. Enter the desired number. These digits will be sent as tone dialing.
Once the call ends, the tone mode is canceled and pulse dialing mode resumes.

Dial Tone - Number Dialed does not go through


The problem is possibly the keypad on the phone. Try another phone , preferrably a standard corded phone. If you still cannot break the dial tone, then the problem is with the telephone line (phone company)
