Enable hyptreading

Hyper-threading is technology available on some Intel processors. If your process and motherboard are hyper-threading, you can enable to option in your Windows operating system. Hyper-threading allows your processor to perform multiple operations at once. Hyper-threading is used on multi-core processors and will share the workload among each core.

Restart your computer and repeatedly press the "Del" key or the F2 Key to enter BIOS this will vary depending on your computer and BIOS Press "Tab" to highlight "Main" then use the down arrow key to select "Hyper-Threading-Technology" then press "Enter". Select "Enabled" then press "F11" to exit and save changes. Your computer will now restart with hyper-threading enabled. Click "Start" then "Control Panel" and double-click "Device Manager". A window will appear showing your computer's hardware devices. Click the "Processors" drop-down menu. Right click one of your processor cores then click "Properties". Confirm hyper-threading is enabled. Hope this helps.

Laptop will not accept operating system. was not working properly so i erased the operating system now it will start the setup for operating system then freezes on 99%.

Hmm, Theres a possibility it could be the disk, it important to take step by step procedures for example. Try another disk .. No? maybe try another CD Drive or the other possibility is a problem which i had, in my bios i set Hyper-threading on and changed buffer levels from 128 to 256mb on the video for example. For some reason was not allowing a new install. Removed CMOS Battery (on board) reset bios defaults and whack in a new disk. Let me know how it goes!

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz

The processor you are talking about is a single core processor capable of Hyper Threading. (HT).
When you allow hyperthreading in the BIOS, Windows will show 2 ghost processors in the device manager.

If you are authorized to acces the BIOS setup,,enter the setup and look for HT or hyperthreading. If you disable hyperthtreading in BIOS, you will only see one processor in device manager.
Besides, if it is a dual core the BIOS must know.

Look on the case of the computwr where the Windows logo apperas, you may find mentioned :With HT technology. It used to be a boasting/selling mantra.

Hope it helps.

Processor Upgrade For An IBM Netvista 8307-73G...

If the physical size, and numper of pins is the same as your current processor, you can most definately upgrade. Hyper threading is enabled through the bios, but as far as I know it's not neccesary.
Swapping out processors is fairly easy, and when you buy a new one, it should come with extensive instructions and pictures showing you exactly how to do it. Good luck!
