Sounds like this will need to be looked at by a qualified service technician. You may want to contact Lexmark Customer Support. If your printer is still under warranty it should probably be covered.

You'll need to remove the panel just above the power switch. Two screws does as I recall. Also you'll need to buy connectors for the fan because it comes with bare wires.
After hours of searching I found the right connectors for the fan since it comes with bare wires when ordered from www.cypower.com. The connectors are from JST America and can be ordered from www.digikey.com.
Part 455-1126-ND (housing that takes pins spaced 2mm apart)
Part 455-2148-1-ND (pins)
You have to order at least 10 housings and 100 pins but all of that costs about $2.50.
You can also order the crimp tool but that costs $1,300. I'll just use a needle nose pliers.

Unfortunately, the Lexmark X502n printer's support ends up to Mac 10.5 only, There are no drivers available for a Mac 10.6 versions. This would explain why you're having problem making it work with your computer. Hope I can assist you more on this.
