Question about KitchenAid KTT261 Ultra Power Plus 2-Slice Toaster

2 Answers

My toaster is hung up on '2'...and flashes. I just want a peice of toast!

I have NO idea what has happened to our family toaster. We've had our toaster, KitchenAid (blue) two-peice of toast, one slot toaster for several years, and up until now, Old Faithful has never let me down. Now he's flashing the number two and wont take down any bread for my morning toast. Not only that, but when I try to press reset and hold it, random numbers pop up and then upon releasing the button, the number two comes back...

What's up? Is it my toaster's last day?

lift and look toaster flashes all of the indicator lights and none of the buttons work and the toaster does not pop up. After unplugging for a few minutes and then back in again it works fine.

I had same issue. There are crumbs and or pieces stuck in an internal switch Follow these instructions:
    1. unplug
    2. clean crumb tray
    3. Shake it, shake it, shake the **** out of it. Shake it sideways, left and right, upside down, right side up, flat ways, etc.. Hard to believe how much stuff will come out.
    4. Plug it back in (still flashes 2)
    5. Hit reset button
    6. Set darkness should now work so you can toast again.

Kitchenaid told me it's an electrical code, to unplug and wait 60 seconds then try again. To that I would add unplug and thoroughly clean toaster removing tray, shaking, and using compressed air to clear. I tried that earlier today and - knock on wood - the problem seems "solved" for now....

How do I remove the upper housing assembly to clean out the toaster? I have a KitchenAid model KTT340OB

In the event that you DO need to take it apart, my KTT570 had two of the six screws hidden by rubber feet on the bottom of the toaster. Remove the feet by carefully prying them out with a very small straight-slot screw driver. They are essentially just rubber plugs about 3/4 of an inch in length. They are located on the end from which the crumb-tray is extracted. There are ONLY six screws so don't remove the rubber feet on the opposite end. You will need to remove the darkness knob and the handle from the end of the toast-lowering mechanism prior to removing the cover.

Russell Hobbs RH2T toaster bread won't stay down w/o hold handle

Hi, most new toaster have a selenoid that hold down the handle while toasting then release when done so a spring bring the toast up. Possible problem with the selenoid, the electronic circuit that controls it or the plate that the selenoid holds. When you lower the handle you close the contacts of the AC line inside the toaster so if the handle is raised there is no power.

The heating element doesn't work in two of the slots.

If its a Dualit model then you should be able to get it repaired. Generally replacing parts on a Dualit is not easy but spares are usually available thanks to the fact that its one of the most well known commercial toasters on the market. Google and see if there's a repairer in your area.

Very hard to remove the plastic cover from the toaster - Must Release Circuit Card First To my fellow owners of a KTT261. We have enjoyed using our KitchenAid toaster for many years but it eventually got so gummed up we could no longer reliably push the handle down to make toast AND it would also fail to latch or stay latched until the toasting cycle was completed. Not wanting to throw it out I wanted to try repairing it, but there was little info available online. So if you ever need to remove the plastic cover for maintenance here are a few tips. Of course UN-PLUG THE TOASTER COMPLETELY AND LET IT COOL DOWN TO ROOM TEMP!!! Remove the 4 screws on the bottom, two on each narrow side holding the top plastic cover to the bottom and pull off the plastic handle on the right which drops the bread down into the toaster cavity. That is the only obvious task. You will now notice that the cover still can't be removed because something on the right side near the front control panel isn't letting the cover detach from the base. That something is the control panel itself mounted into a white plastic holder glued to the cover and it's very short ribbon cable joining the two electronic circuit cards on the right near the handle which are mounted to the base. What to do. Using a long pair of needle nose pliers, or very small fingers and a long narrow screwdriver -or- all of the above and a second pair of hands, you must release the credit card sized front control panel electronic circuit card from the white plastic holder glued to the blue plastic toaster cover. This is not easy, but ultimately I was able to do it with my wife's help and repaired the toaster nicely. The control panel circuit card is held into the holder by a plastic latch at the top middle of the card. The latch protrudes thru a hole in the card. The bottom of the circuit card fits into 3 finger grooves on the holder. So the task is to release the upper plastic latch by moving it upward, while pushing the card away from the white plastic holder glued to the toaster cover then it will lift out of the bottom groove and be free of the cover. Then you can remove the cover completely, examine and fix the latching mechanism ...etc. IMPORTANT - Remember to study how it was held in originally, what orientation the parts were to each other, because the even harder part for us later after fixing the toaster latching mechanism was to reverse these steps and re-insert the control panel circuit card back into the holder...oye! There is just barely, ...barely, enough length in the ribbon cable connecting the control panel card to the base electronics to do this. Putting it back together was made difficult, because the upper plastic latch on the white plastic holder which secures the control panel circuit card to the cover against it's membrane switches required an enormous force to get the circuit card to latch. I thought I was going to break the card itself, but it did snap into place, barely. Good Luck, "I'm pullin for ya, we're all in this together" (Red-Green)
