Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. These issues in dryer occur due to overheating, to start with check the vent and try to clean it. If still it's not resolved then the issue is with the thermal fuse going bad and needs to be replaced. It is mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Starts automatically when I set the timer

This could be a problem with the start button switch (it should click when pressed/released) or with the switch on the motor.

Kenmore dryer 70 Series doesn't shut off, timer continues to run

there are 2 different kinds of units made back then.
one has a push to start button that could have a stuck contact causing the unit to think you are pushing the button and want it to run again.
the other could have a stuck motor switch and thats not available separately. you would have to replace the motor. try to clean any lint out of the motor if you have that type. use compressed air to blow the lint out of the motor. it usually works to get the lint out and it can cause the switch to stick.

Maytag Dryer #MDE4000AYW

Try first unplugging power cord from the appliance, this will drain power from circuits and reset it.

Check the door latch sensor, if that is stuck the door sensor will not let the machine start.

Keep pressed start button for 10 seconds or so, on some dryer this reset the machine.

If it still does not work then there is an internal fault , probably the timer assembly must be replaced.

If you need to call a technician you can use the number listed on the owner manual.

If you want to do it yourself, test the timer control, then if it is faulty replace it.

You find replacement here.

Washer will not shut off.

sounds like the final phase is not being registered on the timer or the computer chip may need to have a service tech diagnose but it isn't a complex problem just an annoying one, the final phase is a cool down cycle and also you may need to see if you have the settings for cotton clothes, the dryer will tumble them so as not to let them wrinkle. hope this helps
