You either have something stuck in the blower wheel, the belt broke and is jammed in the motor or the belt is hung up on something like the belt pulley or you have a bad motor that's siezed up.most likely it will be something jammed but you just have to get inside of the dryer and look.with a putty knife there should be two clips between the top panel and the front panel one on the left and one on the right side around two inches in from the corner front, push in with the knife to release the clips and remove the front, maytag belts are tricky to put on,you'll need to look at the instructions that come with the belt,i can't explain how to do it,when i'm in front of the dryer i just put the belt on from feel, when you have the drum in you'll feel like a V to the left of the motor, the left part of the belt goes in there and the right part gets rapped around the pulley and then you have to pull up on the piece of metal that's on the top where the pulley is connected with your right hand and push to the left and then stick that part of the belt onto the motor shaft with your left hand if that makes sense, that's how i do it.let me know what you find, good luck

Duet dryer is making a humming noise when cycle starts a d during

whenever i hear a humming sound in a dryer it's usually the motor or something caught in the blower wheel stopping the motor from spinning.open the door and see if you can spin the drum.if it spins by hand try this, open the door, push in the door switch with one hand, have someone push the start button while you hold in the door switch and spin the drum by hand helping it move,if it runs you have a bad motor,if it doesn't remove the bottom panel and see if the belt is broke and stuck in the motor but like i say usually it has something to do with the motor not spinning.hope this helps

usually the humming sound is coming from the motor, try this, open the door, turn the drum with one hand and hold the door switch in with your other hand and have someone else push the start button at the same time, this might help the motor turn on but if it does you need a new motor,if you can't turn the drum you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or something jammed in the motor like a broken belt but like i said a humming sound is usually the motor.

Dryer makes loud humming noise but drum doesn't turn when I push start.

Check to see if the drum will turn by hand. If so, leave the door open but push the light switch button down and start the unit. Once you hear the humming sound, manually turn the drum with your hand to start. If the drum turns normally, you have a bad motor and needs to be replaced. If the drum does not turn, something is jamming the motor and needs to be disassembled and inspected.
Good luck

Dryer makes clicking sound when i try to turn on: checked door and proper settings

Try this (you may need two people):
1. Open the dryer door and locate the door switch. While pushing the door switch in, have someone else push the start button.
2. You'll hear the noise. Keep pushing both buttons and take your other hand, reach in side and grab one of the drum fins and manually push the drum in a clockwise direction.
3. The drum may take off on its own. BE CAREFUL TO REMOVE TO HAND QUICKLY TO NOT GET BUMPED BY THE FINS AS THEY BEGING TO ROTATE.
If it does not start, the motor needs to be replaced. If it is still under full warranty, simply call a repairman.
If this works, turn the dryer off, close the door and try to start it again just by pushing the start button. If it works, it may have been something obstructing the drum from turning. OR, the motor could be going out. It may continue to start on its own for an unkown period of time, a day, a week, and year. But eventually it will go out and will need replaced.
Replacing the motor is a bit involved, but if you want to attempt it I can walk you through it.
There should be a 5 YEARS warranty on the motor, so you might consider a repairman. Make sure they are certified and there will be no cost to you for the motor. The labor, however, may be up to you and could be expensive.

I'm willing to assist you on whatever you decide, but I will need the complete make and model number.

Here is information on where to find the whole model number:

When I press the button to start the dryer it just makes the noise but doesn't kick on. The light was off a few weeks ago and i never got around to change the bulb. But I did pull the dryer out to clean...

I believe the light and the fact that it is not running are unrelated.
The light may simply have come loose and needs refitted or may need to be replaced. I'll need the model number of the dryer to help you further on this.
For the noise, try this (you may need two people):
Drum not turning, hear humming noise

the humming noise is from the motor, see if you can spin the drum by hand,if it moves you have a bad motor,if it's hard to turn you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or the belt is jammed somewhere, the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into
