The pump is installed under a set of stairs and vented into that same space. There is an odor coming from the vent. Was it installed incorrectly? Should it vent out doors?

I have a John Wood one pipe power vented hot water heater. The model number is Jw840nvh-fv-04. Recently I've been smelling products of combustion coming out the top of the tank where the vent is.

If this heater is located in a "confined space", has the "make up air" entry point(s) been restricted/blocked? In short, is there enough air present to support combustion AND to supply enough air for the power vent to move the gases at a reasonable rate to the environment?

Can you "feel" the gases coming out the vent at a reasonable thrust? Is the power vent blower motor making any noises (not rotating properly, i.e., bad bearings)? Does the vent have any debris at the end, possibly at a screen?

Is the T&P valve dripping water? Is there ANY water on the floor? Is there a thermal blanket on the heater? Is the blanket wet anywhere? Did you recently add a thermal blanket? (Some manufacturers DO NOT recommend a blanket.) Have any liquids been spilled on top of the tank? Is anything dripping on the tank?

Is the burner flame crisp, not "lazy"?

"Recently I've been smelling products of combustion coming out the top of the tank where the vent is". There is a negative pressure present at the top of the tank where the vent is - in a properly drafting vent pipe assembly. This means that vapors, odors, and moisture ARE BEING SUCKED OUT of that area under and through the hood and then into the piping. "and when blew some smoke at the vent, it drafted up through the vent no problem". Try to identify the real source of the odor.

Lastly, I think this model uses a direct connection technique from the blower/power vent termination to the piping without a hood. So if you blew smoke at the vent, and there is no hood, how would the smoke get into the vent? If the 2" vent is PVC or CPVC, and if the gases are being slowed because of any reasons mentioned, maybe the plastic piping is slowly cooking.

Saw has new vent wont run after hot unless i loosen cap

The vent is not working properly or was installed incorrectly, so there is no negative air entering the tank to take up the space of the fuel leaving it for the combustion chamber. Perhaps your tank cap has a vent as well that isn't working.

Odor when water turned on

Most Saniflo products comes with a 1/2" opening on top of the pump casing, which the opening is for European installations only (this is also used in Europe) in the US the 1/2" opening must be kept plugged, if left open, odor will come out of the hole there. But make sure that you cap the 1/2" opening and vent the unit using the 1 1/2" vent connection on top. Make sure is vented to the open air, as air must flow in and out at all times.

When toilet is flushed the pump will continue to pump.

The air breather hole must be kept plugged in the US as odors will emmit through there is left open. I was told that it was only used for European installations. In the US the breather hole mut be kept plugged or seal capped. You must vent the unit using an 1 1/2" vent pipe and must be vented to the open air. As per plbg. codes it should be attached to the main vent stack or all the way through the roof.

Glo Warm Self Venting Heater Model FB3B Emits strong odor

The propane may have a higher sulfur content; however, the odor may go away soon. It is probably caused by the dust and oxidation (micro-rust) that attached itself to every part of the heater while in storage, even though it was "sealed".

Fishy, steam odor coming from AC vents

Forget the radiator tank. Your AC 'Condensate drain' hose is plugged up. This is a common problem. If you know where the hose comes out under the car you can ( carefully ) push a wire up it. If you're lucky it's plugged near the end by a mud-dauber wasp. If not, take it to your dealer and see if you can persuade the write-up guy to show you where the drain outlet is as a gesture of good faith. If they insist on charging you money, consider that when you buy your next car...

Exhuast smell(odor)

no, because the whole combustion chamber and piping is a closed system with the exception of the intake and exhaust which is a double walled pipe. you might check the tightness of your K-1 fuel line or look for leaks under the filter compartment where the solenoid pump is located. the fuel goes into the chamber via a small copper line with a silicone gasket under the gland nut.
