Question about Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffee Maker

Using a thermal pot

I just bought the 10-cup thermal carafe that comes with the grind & brew model. It fits nicely, but I'm worried about using it with the warming plate. Is there a way to turn the warming plate off? I tried placing the temperature switch between low and medium, and that didn't work. I've had two ideas on how to solve this. 1. Remove the contact from the medium setting of the temperature switch, essentially leaving me with three settings, low, high, and off. 2. Installing a small radio shack switch along the base somewhere to interrupt the voltage to the warming plate. Has anyone taken one of these apart enough to know if either solution will work?

I just opened the bottom of the unit to clean out a clogged feed line (different issue) and in response to the 1st question about switching the warming plate, I believe your answer is: it is highly inadvisable. The heating element that heats the water is the same element that provides heat to the warmer. The feed line feeds into a metal coil that attaches to the heater ... which is connected flush to the underside of the warming plate.

I also did discover that the Auto Off feature can be set to 0 minutes. Huzzah!

I also bought the thermal carafe; before I could hack the warming plate, my wife set the "Auto Off" feature to 1 minute, which shuts off the carafe heater. The settings are preserved unless you lose power for an extended period.

The warmer does still warm through the brewing cycle but it doesn't overheat the carafe (IMO.) Hope this helps.

Coffee pot turns off after brewing

This is the correct operation for this type of coffeemaker. It uses the thermal carafe to keep the coffee warm after brewing, and doesn't use power to operate a warming plate

This coffee maker (10 c maker with grinder) beeps it's done every few minutes with water left. we have to brew about 5 times for a full pot, what gives?

Presume this is the Grind & Brew Thermal™ 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Model # DGB-600BCC

An instruction booklet is available here: http://www.cuisinart.ca/pdf/ibs/en/DGB-600BCC_en.pdf

Review the sections beginning on page 11 of the pdf on Turning Off the Grind Function (if not using the grind feature) and Making Coffee.

Make sure you are turning off the grind function if using preground coffee and that the reservoir lid is securely closed.

Check the Cups Setting button; is sounds like the 1-4 feature may be turned on.

Cuisinart Grind and Brew will not emply all the water

The two most common reasons for overflow or underflow have to do with the carafe lid and the filter basket - they key to smooth flow with this coffee maker is making sure the filter basket and carafe lid are making the proper contact with each other so that the center knob on the carafe lid pushes slightly up on the filter basket spring. Make sure the carafe lid is completely closed. Make sure the filter basket is pushed all the way down. Make sure you are not using the gold tone filter and a paper filter at the same time. For some reason, I get better results when the handle of the carafe is resting against the right side wall. If everything is in place, I would suspect a problem with either the filter basket being clogged or some problem with the carafe lid - call Cuisinart as they should be able to order these parts for you.

My cuisinart brew and grind overflows onto to the counter also

Coffee overflowing onto the counter is a common complaint found in response to many automatic drip coffee makers. The following are potential solutions that can be used to rule out "operator error" vs. a defect or malfunction:

    1. Do not "pack" or otherwise overfill the cone/basket with grinds.
    2. If self-grinding your coffee beans, ensure you are using the correct grind setting for an automatic drip coffee maker. (See instruction manual for coffee maker and/or grinder.)
    3. Do not overfill tank with water. Use the marks on the side of the reservoir rather than those defined by another measuring method. This is because a "cup" in a coffee carafe is defined as 6 oz, not 8 oz, and in some cases as little as 5 oz as a cup. (See your owner's manual.)
    4. Make certain the filter cone/basket clicks into place and that the carafe is centered and pushed all the way in.
    5. Try a permanent filter rather than a paper filter or vice versa.
    6. Only use the correct permanent or paper filter (see manual).
    7. Verify that the Pause 'n Serve button isn't sticking. If it is activated too long the brew will escape over the top of the cone/basket. This may be more apt to happen if the alignment of the carafe and the basket is incorrect.
    8. Clean your carafe and machine with vinegar or as instructed by your owner's manual at least three times per year, more if your water supply is hard (prone to leaving water spots). A properly cleaned machine is less likely to suffer a burned out heating element, to take too long to brew a pot of coffee, to produce "off" tasting coffee, or to clog and overrun the filter basket.
    9. Ensure that the coffee machine is sitting level on the counter.

Bunn coffee pot blows water out top of basket

Check the grind on the coffee, brew a pot without coffee and if it overflows, then the machine has a problem. If it doesn't then try a coarser grind on the coffee.

This is because a "cup" in a coffee carafe is defined as 6 oz, not 8 oz, and in some cases as little as 5 oz as a cup. As such, a 12-cup machine actually produces closer to 9 standard 8 oz cups. (See your owner's manual.)
    4. Make certain the filter cone/basket clicks into place and that the carafe is centered and pushed all the way in.
    5. Try a permanent filter rather than a paper filter or vice versa.

    8. It is extremely important to clean your machine with vinegar or as instructed by your owner's manual at least three times per year, more if your water supply is hard (prone to leaving water rings). A properly cleaned machine is less likely to suffer a burned out heating element, to take too long to brew a pot of coffee, to produce "off" tasting coffee, or to clog and overrun the filter basket.
    9. Ensure that the coffee machine is sitting level on the counter.

    Brand new, first run, leaking?

You must have the carafe lid ON. The reason is the lid has a dome on top that pushes up to let the brewed coffee come down. With the pot off look in there with a flashlight....you'll see that the 1 inch dome pushes up on the spring loaded stem.
You MUST have the lid in place or the brewed coffee won't drain into the pot.
