Backlight on faceplate buttons won't turn off

Had my phone for about a week, and the other day the backlight for the face plate buttons will not turn off when the phone is locked and in standby mode.  I have tried turning the lighting effects off in the settings mode but the faceplate backlight buttons still remain on??

You should try to get some of that air in a can. slide the phone open and spray it in there. There might be dirt in the phone causing it to stick.

Backlight not lighting

Yeah - I know the problem though my "kid" is 51!

Select Menu > Settings > Display settings and then:

Backlight time—to set whether the backlights are switched
on for 15 seconds (Normal), for 30 seconds (Extended), or
not at all (Off). Even if Off is selected, the backlight stays on
for 15 seconds when the phone is switched on.

It's the last line that worries me, though: if your "kid" has caused the backlight to FAIL, then you're faced with no backlight, or a repair/replacement bill!

Kids, eh? Who'd have'em?!?!?!?

Good luck!

Buttons on face plate dont work

May not be a solution to this problem in particular but get on ebay and find a new flex cable for like 6 dollars. The flex cables in slider phones break down or come loose easily. Usually this causes your screen to turn white. In your case the buttons have stopped working. It may be another problem altogether. So try replacing it, its cheaper than buying a new phone or taking it to a shop. Hope it helps!

No backlight

A couple things to try:

1st check the backlight settings

Turn on Backlighting and Control Brightness To use your device in dark environments, enable the automatic backlighting feature:
  1. From the Jump screen, press MENU t02003-15.gif then select Settings > Battery & Display.

  2. In the second group box, select the Turn on backlight when using device check box.

  3. Highlight, then select the Brightness slider to open it for editing. Roll the TRACKBALL right to increase brightness; roll the TRACKBALL left to decrease brightness. After you've made the adjustment, press the TRACKBALL to exit edit mode. t02007-55.jpg

  4. Select the length of time you want backlighting to stay on from the Turn off after pop-up menu.

  5. To use the device's light meter while the backlight is on, select the Use ambient light sensor check box.

  6. Press JUMP t02003-14.gif to return to the Jump screen and save your setting.
Now, when you press any button or key, or flip open the screen, backlighting will turn on for the set amount of time. Note that as long as you press a key or button before the set time elapses, the backlight will stay on.
Tips:
  • Even if you have not selected automatic backlighting, you can turn on backlighting at any time by pressing MENU t02003-15.gif + JUMP t02003-14.gif . The backlight will remain on for the time specified in the Backlight Turn off after pop-up menu.

  • When in key guard mode, you can turn on the backlight by pressing the RIGHT SHOULDER t02003-66.gif button.
If it still does not work, then you can try resetting the flex cable to the lcd.

Reseat the SidekickFlex cable

If that doesn't fix it then a new lcd assy will take care of the issue. they run about 45 dollars on ebay.

Backlight display not working

Hey Dannes1956,

The Motorola V3m has a light sensor, which is visible just above the right soft key -- the key above the CLR button. This light sensor turns the backlight on when you press a key in the dark and disables the keypad backlight when you are in a well-lit area.

Your phone sounds like it's operating normally. I believe they disabled the option to activate or deactivate that feature.

Hope this helps,
cHiPz.

Background lighting gone crazy

Ok, this problem is a game glitch, if you downloaded it from the internet, it may have some bugs or some glitches that screws up your phone. I suggest you go back to the shop and exchange a new phone because if it was only three days, the warranty is still valid. So go to the shop immediately.

The face plate snaps on, unless your talking about changing the front LCD cover. Then I would take it to my local service provider store and let them do it. It's there job.
