Question about York Furnace Draft Inducer Blower Fasco # A224

1 Answer

Furnace won't go on. Light blinks three times. Code says that pressure switch stuck open. If I remove the hose from the switch it will sometimes ignite after the hose is put back on.

I just had a pressure switch installed last year. I cleaned out all the hoses. There was quite a bit of water in the small black tank. I emptied that out and it still didn't work. I will buy another pressure switch and let you know if that solves the probem

Hi,
The pressure switch is not working or there is a bit of water in one of the hoses.
What is happening is that the pressure switch will not close when the inducer fan satrts up. This gives the stuck open reading....
Check all of the hoses and the vent piping for water inside and if that all checks out then replace the pressure switch...these do go bad way to often, but they are a saftey device so they make to to be very sensitive...

    Yeah,

I have had pressure switches fail in less then a year....the only other possibility that I have had happen is a cracked heat exchanger and you really want to hope that it is not that....

If you really need heat in the meantime. you can jumper the switch once the inducer is started and the furnace will come on, but you need to remove the jumper each time before it will restart...

Indicator blicks 3 times replaced combustion air switch but did not resolve problem. what do i do now?

There should be a diagnostic chart on the furnace door by the wiring schematic. If so see what the code reads for three blinks.
By the term "air combustion switch" I guess you are referring to the pressure switch. Most diagnostics blinking three times is just a dirty flame sensor. If this is the case the burners will light and go out within 4 seconds. If this is the problem carefully remove the flame sensor and clean gently with emery cloth, fine sandpaper or fine steel wool. Reinsert the sensor and enjoy your heat.

Furnace problems

On - OK
1 Blink - Ignition failure. Check Gas flow, gas pressure, gas valve, flame sensor.
2 Blinks - Closed pressure switch. Check pressure switch (stuck in closed position).
3 Blinks - Pressure switch - failre to close. Check venter, pressure switch, vent blockage.
4 Blinks - Open limit switch. Main limit or aux limit are open. (My comment - Means overheating in chamber. Often result of blocked intake air. Bad filter. In my case, plastic wrap had been sucked into the intake. )
6 Blinks - False flame sensed. Check sticking gas valve.
Rapid continuous blinking - Incorrect twinning, incorrect primary polarity. Reverse transformer secondary leads, reverse primary wires.

Closed pressure switch can be from dirty combustion vents, bad chamber pressure - like missing screws, maladjusted gas pressure, failing pressure switch, loose hoses, moisture in the hoses or fan blades The switch need to be closed to ge the unit to work

The problem could be clogged hoses or hose connections or a bad pressure switch. Remove one wire from pressure switch start furnace as soon as inducer fan starts reattach wire if furnace runs replace pressure switch.hope this helps

I have an amana dms 90904cms furnace ..the fan runs but no heat. I opened cover and saw the red led blinking 3 times code says open pressure switch. what does that mean?

Open pressure switch is when your vent motor comes on it has to get a certain vacuum pressure or it won't ignite furnace. There should be some little black hoses connected to vent motor and maybe into heat exchanger, running to these pressure switches. Pull hose off one end and make sure hoses are not kinked or some times if hoses have sag in them they can fill with water. Other causes are if venting is obstructed or pressure switch is defective, especially if it got moisture in it.

Tappan furnace blower will not shut off and furnace does not heat and red light is blinking one flash constantly.

Usually when the furnace blower motor runs all the time
The limit switch or rollout switch is usually open or bad.
The furnace board is seeing that one of those switches is open, so it brings the blower on to try to get the heat out of the combustion chamber area, so the switch will close. But if the switch is bad and won’t close, the furnace board will keep the blower running continuously.

Need to find the pressure switch on my goodman furnace

It's mounted onto the gas valve. It will be a button or lever that you have to push in or down, depending on the style.

Furnace code light flashes 3 times /pressure switch stuck open

Check the intake and exhaust plumbing for any obstructions. I had same issue, turned out to be ice in the air intake plumbing on outside of house. This may be the problem. The pressure switch can be tested by pulling hose from purge motor that goes to switch and applying a small amount of suction. The switch should make a clicking sound.

Goodman code problem three blinks

Same problem with 1 yr old Goodman. Checked entire exhaust and pressure switch. Inside fan, pressure switch hose clogged with crusty white gunk. Cleaned it & furnace fixed. I have no furnace repair experience, but love to "play MacGyver". Hopefully this could save someone a service call.
