Question about Pioneer VSX-49TXi Receiver

Sound Just Stopped Working

I've had my Pioneer VSX-49TXi for several years now. Everything runs through it (DVD, PS3, VCR, Cable box) and has worked fine since I set everything up. Yesterday, out of the blue, the sound stopped working (for all inputs, even the radio tuner). The unit still displays that it's receiving the signals (digital vs analog, stereo, 2 channel all the way up to 5.1) but produces no sound. I've tried all the trouble shooting steps (mute, tape2, multi-channel, even resetting the system) and nothing brings back the audio. Video works fine for all input sources. Help?

Same thing happened to me. Putting the system in "Set-up mode" and having it recalibrate solved the problem once but it came back in two days. Then I disconnected all the speakers and reconnected them one by one and it worked again. Then it cut out within and hour but putting the headphone jack in a removing it caused the sound to return.

bought my vsx49txi in Nov. of 03. No problems with it till now.(4-09) sound just quit . The unit appears to be getting the audio signals from what ever source is selected but will not out put any sound to speakers or head phone. I have taken it to a Offical Pioneer Elite repair facility which Poneer directed me to. They have told me they must order parts which will cost , up to five hundred bucks.Circuit boards. I requested Pioneer give me a break on the cost of these parts but they laughed at the idea since it was out of warrantee. If this is a unit having the same problems eisewhere its a probllem with design or quality. They should pay to fix it i think.

I have the same problem, the sound quit working. Like simbad12, I can only get sound when it is placed on direct sound 2 channel, and only through the Speaker B connections. .

I have the same problem with my 49txi, and I called pioneer and a repair shop as well. Both told me that the 49txi has a known problem with over heating and that its boards unsolder themselves. I would have thought Pioneer would stand behind something this expensive, but that was the old Pioneer in the 80s, and the new Pioneer says we are on our own.

I have a Pioneer VSX D412 S receiver with my Pioneer surround sound system The system SUDDENLY STOPPED RECEIVING SOUND SIGNAL FROM MY HD TV

  1. Turn the TV and receiver off and back on. This is called "power cycling" the devices.
  2. Check the menu settings to make certain the TV is still sending a sound signal out to the receiver.
  3. Disconnect the cable, blow both ends out, reconnect, and see if the cable was partially disconnected or has dust or lint interfering with the connections.
  4. Change the cable for another cable that you know to be working.
  5. Use a different source for the TV: DVD, Cable, different channel, etc.
  6. Connect the receiver to another TV.

The buttons assigning DVD, TV, VCR, etc suddenly changed their assignments. DVD was now TV, VCR was now DVD, etc. I don't think it all happened at once either. Now I can't get sound from the...

There are facilities to CHOOSE the digital assignment. I've seen where extended power loss will randomly lose custom settings. Open the manual.

Run the antenna cable to the VCR in antenna, then from the out antenna on the VCR to the TV in antenna. When turning on the system, turn on VCR and so audio from TV will be heard through the system.

Improper equalizer between VSX-49TXi and LD player,no sound now

You may want to buy the service manual (SM) from Pioneer for this unit. It has a lot of info on resetting and testing the receiver under the "Test Mode". It is highly improbable that you could ruin the firmware by connecting the receiver in an unusual way. You may just need to reset it to factory specs. Another option if you bought it from a local Pioneer dealer is for them to reset. It usually involves getting into the secret menu to do so.
I had one of these for a short while and they are quite nice receiver.
Good luck
