After replacing the thermal fuse does it need reseting

did you read out the thermal fuse with a meter?if not buy a meter or you'll end up changing parts you don't need,if you changed out the fuse and still have no heat then your old fuse was good and you have another problem, buy a meter, pull off at least one of the wires, set the meter on say 20k ohms, you'll see a 1 one the meter, touch the leeds together and you should see anything but 1,now touch the leeds to the part you're checking with at least one of the wires or both removed,if you see the 1 the part is bad,if you see anything other than 1 the part is good, next time send the full model number off of the machine you're having problems with so whoever is helping you can look up your machine,BUY A METER,don't replace parts you don't need,if you have no heat and you changed out the thermal fuse check the element and the fuses on the heater box, you'll see two red wires going to the heating element, pull one wire off, touch the meter leeds one to each connector on the element,if you see 1 the element is your problem.

My son trip over the cable cord and pulled out the cable connector, were you connect the cable cord.

  • Using a wire cutting tool, cut and remove the outer sheath of the coaxial cable approximately 1/2-inch down from the end of the cable. Take care not to cut too deep or you will damage the aluminum sheeting and perhaps even the plastic wire insulation. Peel back the aluminum sheeting so it wraps around the outer sheathing and remove about 1/4 inch of the white plastic wire insulation using the wire cutting tool to expose the thin cable wire.
  • Attaching Connector
  • Slide the ferrule ring, which is the metallic piece used to hold the connector on the cable, onto the coaxial cable. Push the connector onto the cable so the white plastic wire insulation rests up against the inside of the connector. Slide the ferrule ring forward so it covers the bottom end of the coaxial connector.
  • Finishing
  • Crimp the ferrule ring tightly around the wire and the connector. You may notice that some of the aluminum sheeting that you pulled down sticks out of the bottom of the ferrule ring. Trim the sheeting before using the cable.

Contact Ricoh . Those touch screens are failing at almost a 100 percent rate. You do not have to replace the entire consol, just the glass panel that has the touch sensative plastic coating.
I believe those are being replaced free by Ricoh.
    Very easy to replace also.

Touch screen won't calibrate on garmin 2720 gps

The touch screen is a 4 wire resistive type made up of several layers. A thin plastic layer, a micro thin metal layer, microdots for insulators, another ultra thin metal layer, and a final plastic layer. All of these layers amount to the thickness of a sheet of paper. This whole stack is bonded to a thin sheet of glass and placed over the actual TFT display.

It's amazing that you can see through all these layers and only lose 20% of the light. What's not so amazing is that those thin metal layers are prone to damage. I've seen several with no apparent damage that didn't work, and several with visible scratches or cuts that worked fine.

I usually start by installing (or reinstalling) v7.2 firmware and then attempt to recalibrate the screen, sometimes that works. Next I would try re-seating the 4 conductor touch screen pigtail in it's ZIF socket nestled between the big white wires on the display assembly. The last resort is to buy a broken 2600 or 2700 series Garmin and salvage the touch screen. You could send it to Garmin for a flat $250, but that makes no sense at all.

If you get another screen (Garmin won't sell you one), Here's how to replace it:
Remove the six screw holding the case together.
Split the cases and pull the patch antenna out of it's slot.
Remove the four silver screws holding the display assembly into the front bezel.
Unhook the small ribbon cable that goes to the infrared receiver under the red lens.
Pull the display assembly out of the front bezel. It won't come all the way out because of cables.
Use a razor to cut the plastic tape holding the touch screen bracket to the TFT display.
Unlatch the 4 conductor ribbon from the ZIF connector nestled between the 2 big white wires.
Use a penknife to unbend the metal tabs keeping the touch screen from coming loose. I usually just do the two by the IR receiver.

When you reassemble, don't get frustrated with the gaskets, they're tricky but it can be done. Tom
