Hi, go to start- Control panel- personalization. Click here and check if the screen saver is turned off. It is located on the lower right corner. Click on it to turn the screen saver back on. This is for windows 7.
If you are running XP go to Start- Control panel- Display. Click on the display icon and there is a tab that says screen saver. Click here and chose your screen saver.
The option is under Screen saver options or there is an idle time shut off selection under Power Saver options as well. When you select your screen saver there is are specific options to customize how it shows and how long before it activates. Some screen savers have more options than others.
To activate screen saver right clik on the desktop go for properties click on screensaver tabselect screen saver adjust the time to 5 and click on apply and ok button. so that ur screen saver is activated to the selected time.
To set up your screensaver, right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Choose the Screen Saver tab. In the drop down menu for Screen saver, make sure something is selected instead of (None). Next click the Preview and it will give you a glimpse of what the screensaver you chose will look like. Move the mouse to get out of it and select apply if you like that one or choose a different one.
Black screen is probably a screen saver or the screen is turned off by power management software.
Check your screensaver setting. Change the screensaver to None to disable screensaver.
I assume you are using Windows XP.
If the LCD is turned off by power management, on the same screen with screen saver, on the lower part of the box there is a Power button. Click to open Power Options Properties. Set your monitor power properties there.
When the screen go blank and you have to push power button, probably the computer is set to go to stand by mode after some idle minutes. You can also set it here in system standby setting.
Since your laptop is Dell, I presume that you use Dell Media
Other people had the same problem too. Try disabling this program to check if
your screensaver is working.
Other programs that might conflict with the screensaver might be:
3. Power DVD
4. PCM service.
Otherwise there is a known bug:
Try updating (flashing) the BIOS with an updated version. This seems to
be a problem Dell was aware of an made available a "fix."
